Director of Engineering - Mission Equipment
Cobham Mission Equipment is seeking an outstanding Engineer to provide vision and excellence at our rapidly growing Davenport, Iowa facility. The successful candidate will direct a team of 2-5 supervisors and a total of 20-75 employees. S/he will be responsible for the overall direction of the Engineering Department, and will coordinate, and exercise functional authority for strategy, planning, organization, control, integration, evaluation, and budgetary performance.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and implement engineering programs, per customer requirements, by defining the project philosophy, activities, milestones, and staff requirements.
Establish strategies and Continuous Improvement initiatives for the department.
Coordinate technical development, scheduling, and resolution of design and test problems.
Coordinate preparation and delivery of engineering plans, design documents, and bid packages.
Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
Develop, monitor, and maintain department budgets. Control expenditures to stay within budget.
Interface with customers at multiple levels, including senior executives, responding promptly to customer needs, and soliciting customer feedback to improve service.
Provide status and progress reports to customers, project teams, and management.
Prepare or approve interim and completion project reports.
Identify staffing requirements and coordinate staffing with supporting organization managers.
Perform or supervise the following: Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise, apprise, reward, and discipline performance; encourage growth; address complaints; and resolve problems.
Assign and oversee personnel in specific phases or aspects of programs, such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.
Direct the integration of technologies, technical activities, and products.
Manage change by developing workable implementation plans, preparing and supporting those affected by change, monitoring transition, and evaluating results.
Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Perform all operations according to prescribed safety and environmental principles.
All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Master of Arts, Master of Science, or Master of Business Administration degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
4+ years' engineering management experience.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.
Knowledge of, and ability with, project management software, spreadsheets, and word processing.
