Director - Advertising, Planning & Strategy - Amazon - Seattle
Job description
The Advertising Planning Director is part of a team that drives the offline and emerging channel advertising investment strategy globally, between Amazon brands, media channels and countries. The objective of this role is to drive compelling brand differentiation across the product portfolio, optimizing media spend and driving sales for Amazon, while supporting specific product-line objectives for both device and Amazon products and services, as well as providing insight into campaigns that drive the brand’s awareness, favorability, and product perceptions vs. the competition at the country level.
This leader will interface with country and business leaders, to understand their situation and brand objectives, and work with the global research team to develop Analytics, Insights and Measurement of Mass advertising in order to drive demand and build brand. The Dir of Ad Planning will also lead the retail and device ad portfolio optimization strategy, delivering efficient and effective media plans and messaging strategies that lead to breakthrough advertising across Mass ad channels.
Responsibilities:
· Lead the development of Mass advertising strategies that inform breakthrough creative work and media strategies globally.
· Develop and manage media investment strategies that deliver on clearly articulated advertising objectives and priorities globally and locally.
· Proactively manage the ad message mix for mass marketing, recommending messaging and investment mix across products, services and channels, based on how creative is performing, what creative is available, product features in-country, shifting priorities, sales lift results and long term brand objectives.
· Identify advertising tenets and then reconcile them across countries in the media plans, despite sometimes competing product-line demands and in-country advertising expectations.
· Manage advertising projects across device and retail businesses in order to identify, analyze, and develop plans around critical business, advertising and messaging priorities.
· Manage and execute the media spend, managing media agency(s) and working with and through country and business leaders and the internal creative team, to ensure the delivery of effective on-strategy advertising.
· Collaborate with the internal research team to design and execute consumer research projects related to market trends, consumer profiles, consumer insights, and competitive intelligence, that provides compelling message differentiation and positioning for advertised brands.
· Direct and execute analysis for new business opportunities including co-branded ad strategies, product/programming integration and developing advertising strategies in emerging channels.
· Develop and communicate strategic planning process milestones and deliverables.
Desired Skills and Experience
Basic Qualifications:
· 12 – 15 years’ experience in senior advertising agency planning and brand strategy roles, or in client side advertising management roles with experience in consumer tech and device marketing.
Preferred Qualifications:
· A proven leader who has shown they can act on global advertising objectives, target audience messaging, a fast changing media environment (including competitor strategies), and can incorporate specific business-line challenges and objectives at a country and product level to create well written and actionable advertising strategy and brand plans.
· Proven experience analyzing the consumer purchase journey across Mass media channels, and developing mass advertising strategies to optimize ad messaging, exposure and sales lift across those channels.
· Demonstrated experience developing creative messaging strategy from compelling consumer insights that can be used to develop differentiated global or local campaigns.
· A creative leader who has lived and worked in both the US and overseas, or at a minimum has had responsibility for brand planning and ad strategy both inside and outside of North America.
· An experienced brand builder with demonstrated skills developing and articulating brand positioning, differentiation, insights and multi-product brand architecture.
· Experience developing innovative brand strategy that leads to compelling and differentiated advertising messaging across traditional and emerging channels.
· Global experience in developing successful breakthrough ad strategies for new and existing products and services in consumer tech.
· Demonstrated experience managing ad strategies across a multi-product/multi-service consumer portfolio, optimizing media plans within the portfolio.
· Proven analytical, planning and strategy communication capabilities; someone who understands the evolving media landscape and media mix models while being operationally capable of managing a large media spend through agencies globally.
· Demonstrated experience leading and articulating advertising and media strategies in collaboration with direct and indirect teams that led to breakthrough advertising and sales lift.
· Proven experience working cross functionally and can determine, dynamically adjust, and clearly communicate ad objectives and strategies and get buy-in to advertising priorities, and media investment strategies globally at senior levels.
· Outstanding written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate clear situation assessments and advertising strategy recommendations globally and locally that will be reviewed with senior leaders and business stakeholders.
· Demonstrated success in leading a methodical process of analyzing problems, gathering information, generating options; then proposing and successfully executing a course of action.
· Experience building, leading and successfully managing a nimble, effective team of brand strategists and media planners.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
· Strong business acumen to quickly learn new business opportunities and understand how strategic plans can enable revenue and profit growth.
· Successful track record dealing with executive level professionals to drive business outcomes.
· Previous advertising or marketing experience in consumer tech or online retail required.
· MBA or advanced degree is highly preferred.
