Principal Product Manager, Storage Technology

The EMC Backup and Recovery Systems division is looking for an experienced IT professional to help lead product planning and development of the backup software portfolio as a part of the Product Management team in Santa Clara, CA.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical skill set to the table, with one of the following backgrounds:

Technical Pre-Sales: Highly technical and customer-facing, this candidate would bring a Sales-oriented view to the Product Management team, leveraging years of direct interaction with enterprise customers to help shape the product portfolio.
Product Management: A strategic thinker who was a Systems Engineer in a previous life, this candidate would bring a wealth of product management experience to the team, leveraging years of software product release experience on high-growth product lines to help guide the Product Management team on roadmap formation.

Desired Skills and Experience

Responsibilities:

Understand and anticipate customer needs to drive product definition and positioning
Understand the market and competition for the product
Create clear MRDs, PRDs, use cases
Build holistic business plans that cover product and business strategy
Drive execution of business plans to meet defined metrics
Drive product roadmap and competitive positioning
Work with Engineering to ensure that product meets requirements and stays within schedule
Work with Sales teams and customers to validate product plans against customer requirements
Orchestrate all product-related activities that impact product development, sales, and support abilities
Act as a general manager for the solution, think strategically
Think and work effectively across functional boundaries
Communicate vision, goals and value to all levels of the organization
Excellent presentation skills
Excellent written communication skills
High degree of passion to win, can-do attitude, goal oriented
Work with multiple projects, ability to prioritize
Understanding of IT trends and their implications to the different layers of the IT stack
Evaluate cost/quality/time to market tradeoffs

Background:

At least 5 years of product management or technical pre-sales experience
Background in backup/recovery and disaster recovery
Experience in storage, applications, and virtualization are all highly desirable
Bachelors or Masters Degree in CS or equivalent experience in hands-on technical roles
