Position Summary

As the academic leader of Walgreens University, the Dean is responsible for oversight of the university and its activities including curriculum, leadership development activities, and the Walgreens Leadership Academy. Through consultation, benchmarking and curriculum advising for all team members and business leaders, the Dean will provide executive leadership designed to develop Walgreens University into a world class academic and training platform. Working in tandem with the Senior Director of Learning and Development, the Dean will craft a collaborative learning strategy that reaches throughout the company. Further the Dean will identify future trends, challenges, and opportunities in higher education and implement strategies that will position Walgreens University as a leading educational, training and development institution, develop and implement near-term and long-term strategies focused on access to career growth opportunities through multiple learning platforms, establish direction for new learning and development opportunities and innovations which support Walgreen Co.’s vision and strategy, build partnerships with academic institutions, vendors and learning consortiums to insure Walgreen University academic relevance and constant benchmarking. The Dean will envision and create a P&L for Walgreens University and define and execute the vision for Walgreens University to become a profit center for Walgreens. The Dean will manage day-to-day operations for the leadership academy, executive coaching and executive development and support Walgreens University operations, specifically related to board of director activities, external visits, and kicking off of key events.


Position Responsibilities

Leadership

Develop strategies and partnerships that support Walgreen Co.’s vision for building and delivering learning and development opportunities for all team members.
Lead the development and execution of leadership development programs for the top 200 leaders at Walgreen Co.
Lead the Walgreens University learning board and act as a key member of the Organization Design and Organization Effectiveness leadership team.
Liaise with academic institutions, vendors and learning consortia.
Create a P&L for Walgreens University and define and execute the vision for Walgreens University to become a profit center for Walgreens.
Provide leadership, direction, coaching, feedback and, where appropriate, discipline to and through subordinate team members.

Curriculum

Provide leadership to the instructional delivery and enhancement of curriculum ensuring classes and programs that reflect "best practices" in education.
Develop innovative and visionary curriculum for Walgreen University and the Leadership Academy. Collaborate with the Learning and Development team in the design, build and implementation of programs and services.
Ensure quality delivery of programs. Provide for quality assurance reviews and address areas in need of attention. Lead the modification of existing programs/services or creation of new program offerings.
Align new curriculum ideas with internal business needs.
Consult in regard to compliance with accreditation, regulations and policies.

Represent WAG U

Accountable for building and maintaining positive relationships with new and existing vendors and universities.
Represent Walgreens University through active participation in community, state, national events or meetings. Develop partnerships with industry and academic institutions to build and enhance learning and development opportunities.
Communicate the Walgreens University value proposition to vendors, universities and other academic institutions. Lead the development of program articulation agreements and degree partnerships with other higher education institutions.
Manage Walgreens University governing board. Outline board agendas and directives. Facilitate decisions and commitments. Accountable for appropriate content and messaging of board activity and decisions to all levels of the organization. Leverage internal resources for presentation and/or distribution of message.

Innovation/Research

Maintain an active portfolio of personal research aimed at the improvement of Walgreens University and the delivery of learning opportunities to team members and Walgreens employees

Desired Skills and Experience

Ideal Qualifications & Interests

Master’s Degree and/or Ph.D, and/or Ed. D., in one of the following fields: education/higher education; humanities/social sciences; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); or business and/or Ph.D. in industrial psychology.
At least 5 years' of experience as a senior leader in an academic institution, leader in executive education in a corporate university or private executive training agency.
At least 4 years' of experience developing and implementing learning programs and services for a global corporation.
Experience working with thought leaders in organizations such as academic institutions.
Executive-level coaching, consulting or relationship management experience.
Experience leading and collaborating cross-functionally in a matrix structure and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget.
At least 3 years' of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets.
At least 5 years' of experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
Willing to travel at least 25% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Record of increasing experience and responsibilities in a diverse environment characterized by collegial management, mentorship, inclusive decision making, and effective communication skills.
Experience preparing an organization or institution for accreditation and achieving accreditation.
