Senior Director, MSNBC Program Research NBCUniversal, Inc. - New York


Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Senior Director, MSNBC Program Research is responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of the MSNBC Program Research Team. The Senior Director is the strategic partner for all matters pertaining to MSNBC and is responsible for analyzing all facets of MSNBC program schedule for optimal ratings delivery and improvement of audience levels (includes Primetime, Daytime and Weekend Longform). The Senior Director will manage and develop program research staff and work closely with other research groups (primary, digital, sales) as well as with colleagues in other departments (programming, communications, finance, marketing, production, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Communicate all audience insights to the President of MSNBC
• Oversee creation and strategic process involved in creating MSNBC schedules
• Analyze all scheduling options for MSNBC special events
• Research support for breaking news events and program planning around such events and notify/alert all clients of schedule changes
• Monitor MSNBC’s international emanation (often need to embargo content for which rights have been purchased internationally)
• Participate in cross-platform discussion to best understand other NBCU programming plans and program sharing
• Partner with VP of Commutations on all press requests
• Partner with CFO of MSNBC on long-range planning projects
• Provide finance department with future audience delivery estimates
• Partner with marketing team to monitor consumer insights learnings
• Responsible for program analyses for various types of data (market breaks, Simmons, Rentrak)
• Lead, manage and develop a team
Desired Skills & Experience

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree is required
• 7 years experience in Program Research
• 3+ years leadership experience
• Expertise in media research systems, particularly Nielsen (Galaxy Explorer and NPower)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Explorer are needed. Must have excellent Excel skills

• Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

• Passion for news, current events, and the MSNBC brand: the ideal candidate should be very familiar with news programming on all major broadcast and cable networks
• Familiarity with Arianna and AudienceWatch TV rating tools
• Familiarity with Rentrak
• Knowledge of Video on Demand and Online streaming data
• Ability to work as part of a team and under tight deadlines
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task and delegate
