Job Description
The eBay North America Daily Deals program is one of the most successful levers available within eBay Marketplaces to drive business growth and perception change. It has grown very rapidly over the past 3 years, and is on pace to do so again this year. Within the current year, important decisions need to be made about how the program will develop, and what role it will play in many of the areas Marketplaces is trying to develop: vertical (category) marketing, seasonal (retail calendar) merchandising, local and social deals and commerce, platform development and automation, loyalty and discount programs.
The Director of Deals programs position requires a highly motivated, resourceful and entrepreneurial individual that can clearly define the program’s strategy, set clear targets in the face of many competing priorities, outline and execute a program for growth and development of the program, and take advantage of the rich data the program makes available to drive improvement.
It’s a high-energy, high-impact role for someone who can balance strategic thinking, operational precision, analytic rigor, detailed program management, solid marketing instincts and multi-group negotiation to deliver a successful, constantly-evolving Deals program
Responsibilities
Define and maintain Deals program strategies. Set goals for growth and development of the program. Adjust the program to meet the goals; evolve the goals as the program evolves.
Own operational execution of the current Daily Deals program, including overseeing budgets and targets, and supervise the team that sets the calendar for Daily Deals and administers the Deals technology platform
Work to promote the Deals program through onsite, email, affiliates, display advertising and other channels.
Work with Product Development and other teams to continually improve the current Deals platform; with these teams explore new Deals concepts at eBay (Local Deals, automated Deal Finders, etc.) to find ways to simplify and integrate these programs, making eBay Deals more transparent to Buyers
Balance program-building strategies with use of the program to help drive other initiatives, including (as examples) Retail Calendar Marketing, Vertical (Category) development and Seller Scaling.
Work closely with Seller and Vertical (Category) teams to cultivate relationships with Sellers and develop sources of Deals supply
Use industry benchmarks and drive research insights to continue to evolve the program.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with demonstrated strong professional performance. The position requires someone who thinks strategically, is highly entrepreneurial and analytical, drives structure and rigor into organizations, and works well in fast-paced environment. We are looking for a seasoned professional who drives hard, can handle controversy, and makes decisions firmly and objectively.
10+ years work experience in a relevant field required
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing, business, communications, statistics, or a related discipline. Masters (particularly an MBA) is a strong plus but not required.
Retail experience in buying or merchandising a strong plus but not required.
Previous high-volume e-commerce marketing management experience a big plus. High priority given to individuals who can leverage experience and thought leadership in these areas: deals, loyalty or marketing program management, advertising, social, mobile and/or general e-commerce.
Results focused, hungry to turn insight into action with the exceptional problem-solving and fact-based analysis skills required to deliver and/or vet the required insights.
Strong interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to share insights and actionable recommendations in a concise and persuasive manner, negotiate compromise among competing priorities.
Strong preference given to candidates who are also active eBay users and are familiar with the eBay user experience
