Job Description
Skybox is looking for an exceptional Engineering Manager to help deliver the systems that operate our
core infrastructure. You will lead a team of engineers responsible for building a system that turns terabytes of satellite image data into simple customer facing products that change the way the world sees itself. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will help us build a scalable data processing, storage, tasking and delivery system to support our unique data and products.
The ideal candidate will be deeply technical, with a record of managing the delivery of web-scale software in a production environment. The candidate should be well versed in software development practices and standards and comfortable and confident in working with Executive leadership, Product, Development, QA and Service Engineering. The candidate should have experience turning a product roadmap into task and resource plans which ensure that high quality software is delivered on a predictable schedule.
Responsibilities:
Manage a group responsible for designing and building complex software features
Work with Program Managers to ensure on-time delivery of features
Provide regular updates to executive leadership into the progress of projects
Work with domain specialists and product managers to establish product roadmap priorities
Lead and mentor software engineers into a successful team
Manage delivery of multiple simultaneous software development projects to ensure success of
strategic Skybox goals
Lead in choosing the tools, practices and standards of the Skybox development and deployment
environments
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or greater in Computer Science, EE or equivalent
Minimum of 10 years of experience in delivering large scale web based applications
Proficient programming skills in at least C/C++ or Java as well as scripting languages such as perl, python or php
Strong record of delivering software projects on time and on budget using agile practices
Experience with Apache web development technologies is preferred
Record of mentoring software engineers
Experience with NOSQL technologies is preferred
Experience monitoring complex systems is a plus
Experience with aerospace programs is a plus
Proven ability to evangelize process and technology across an organization
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
