Digital Director, BBCAmerica.com #BBC - Greater #New York City


Job Description

BBC America is seeking a strategically-minded, creative digital executive to manage the digital products associated with the BBC America cable network, including bbcamerica.com and all social and mobile extensions. The ideal candidate will run the day-to-day operations of a consumer-facing website, as well as mobile websites and apps. A successful applicant is well-versed in content distribution across all digital platforms, and knows how to use social media and other emerging platforms to drive ‘fanhood’ for BBC America programs and the parent brand. BBC America digital products have lots of internal stakeholders – including program development, marketing, home entertainment, content sales and distribution, ad sales and communications – so candidates will benefit from having worked in matrixed organizations.

Responsibilities

· Develop, articulate and execute a strategic plan for BBC America’s digital products, including the future role and makeup of BBCAmerica.com, mobile apps and sites, and the brand’s presence on social media platforms.
· Set and communicate criteria for assessing and approving new digital ideas. Prioritize initiatives that advance goals and that are achievable given time and resource constraints.
· Be a creative leader in the effort to translate and repackage BBC America content for the digital audience to enrich the viewer experience and to convert new digital users into fans.
· Thoroughly understand the audience and use that understanding to create growing engagement and ‘fandom’.
· Serve as a digital thought leader within the organization.
· Create and manage a roadmap for channel-related digital products and assets that is aligned with priorities of the broader business, particularly the marketing of the channel but also other key divisions that monetize BBC content in the US market.
· Guide products from conception, through planning and build, to launch.
· Set goals for every product or initiative and define metrics and KPI's used to measure performance. Continually assess value of each product and kill any under-performers.
· Design, recruit and hire a team that will best position us to achieve objectives. Create a culture that inspires imaginative thinking and hard work in equal measure.
· Identify vendors, negotiate contracts and manage those relationships.
· Manage the P&L.
Desired Skills & Experience

Skills
· Thorough understanding of all digital platforms including the web, mobile and social and how users behave on each platform. Always up-to-date on emerging digital trends.
· Exceptionally well organized and detail oriented. Obsessive about meeting deadlines and finishing projects
· Equipped with a variety of tools for growing audiences on all platforms, including a full grasp of SEO/SEM principles and how to optimize a social brand experience.
· Talent for understanding the audience (current and future) and extracting insights from both quantitative and qualitative research and for converting those insights into new product ideas or enhancements.
· Equally comfortable working with both creative and business executives.
· Demonstrated ability to navigate a complicated organizational structure. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
· A knack for generating creative ideas, often off the cuff, and to sell them to a discerning audience. The courage to think big thoughts and to voice them.
· Familiarity with digital ad sales and ecommerce.
· Outstanding writer and communicator.
· Fluent in TV, current and past. Finger on the pulse of pop culture.

Qualifications
· A minimum of ten years of work experience with at least five years in a senior digital role, preferably at a media company, with oversight of a team.
· At least three years with sole responsibility for a site and/or other digital products with significant user bases. Owned the budget. Prior P&L management a plus.
· Familiarity with common content management systems, Omniture, Google Analytics, and ComScore
