Investment Accounting Director BlackRock Gurgaon

Accounting Operations is responsible for the production of Accounting & Portfolio Returns to support BlackRock’s Institutional, Fund and Insurance Accounting businesses across all investment mandates; Equity, Fixed Income, Multi-asset, Fund of Funds, Alternatives. The function consists of two teams, Portfolio Accounting produces monthly shadow accounting and portfolio returns for a large number of Institutional separate accounts and daily shadow NAV oversight for daily close funds. Investment Accounting produces official books and records (GAAP, IFRS, other bases) investment accounting for our Insurance clients. The teams partner closely with BlackRock’s Operations teams to ensure the integrity of data and transactions used in Accounting and Performance and with BRS, our commercial arm within BlackRock.
The Director will lead the India Region for Accounting Operations with functional responsibility for Portfolio Accounting and Investment Accounting in partnership with the EMEA and US Regional Leads. The role will also include vendor management of Oracle Financial Services (OFS) with primary responsibility for ensuring agreed service levels are met through a robust production oversight model. The role will:

Be functionally responsible for ensuring service delivery excellence from Accounting Operations teams in India and as part of the global team.
Foster productive partnerships with Operational teams and ensure that responsibilities are clear, key hand-offs are robust and service quality is measured.
Build relationships with key client business stakeholders across APAC, Client Service Management (CSM); Institutional Client Business (ICB); Reporting Distribution Services (RDS).
Develop strategic partnerships with APG in India to drive our scale efficiency targets.
Key Responsibilities:

Service Delivery

Regional responsibility for ensuring that core service delivery meets defined KRI’s/KPI standards.
Partner with EMEA/US Regional leads to effectively utilize local and global resources to deliver resilient client service while supporting strategic and tactical change.
Relentless focus on improving core service quality through measurable service standards that drive systematic remediation and resolution plans.
Management Oversight for OFS service delivery supporting Accounting Operations, including delivery of targeted scale efficiencies.
Support the development of the Aladdin Accounting platform and operating environment to streamline the process, improve controls and deliver targeted scale efficiency in line with overall business unit priorities.
Identify opportunities to remove process redundancy and automate workflow through Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and partner with APG to deliver action plans.
Lead contributor to the strategic direction of the Accounting Operations team aligned with GAP priorities.
People

Develop and maintain a robust governance structure that supports Accounting Operations business priorities.
Responsible for ensuring that the team have clear and well understood roles and responsibilities.
Implement robust succession plans for management levels.
Ensure that career development plans are in place for the team for the team and performance is managed through effective 1 to 1 meetings.
Develop technical and management expertise through targeted training and development opportunities.
Co-ordinate local recruitment ensuring diverse recruitment practices.
Encourage the team’s involvement in various philanthropic events through active participation.
Foster a continuous approach to innovation in the team that delivers measurable improvements through targeted process/system enhancements.
Operational Excellence

Manage process and team within a robust and documented operational control environment that meets internal/external Operational Risk protocols. (Audit, SOR, RCSA)
Collaborate with other regional/global and functional managers to drive global consistency of process and controls.
Manage product and regulatory driven change to ensure that the accounting platform and process are compliant.
Conduct periodic review of process and controls to identify opportunity for improvement.
Relationship Management

Partner with EMEA/APAC Regional leads to seamlessly deliver BlackRock’s Accounting Operations product and services to internal and external clients.
Effective governance and operational oversight of OFS to ensure delivery meets agreed service levels and resource supports key initiatives.
Develop an engagement plan and strong partnership with all key internal stakeholders and act as senior escalation point. (BDS, GIO, RDS, ISG)
Manage relationships with third party service providers such as custodian banks, accounting agents, consultants and auditors.
Provide Institutional and Retail client business support in managing client relationships with respect to portfolio accounting and performance data topics.
Manage the technology agenda supporting Accounting Operations in partnership with APG.
Support RFP (Request for Proposal) meetings with new and existing clients detailing Portfolio Accounting processes and controls.
Career Development:

This role offers the candidate a view across the entire Aladdin trading platform and covers the “Aladdin Life of a Trade” and the “Aladdin Client Life-cycle”. Bus Ops is a large team with many other disciplines and a significant presence in APAC including India.
Top-down view of the firm and its process together with a bottom-up approach in terms of Accounting Operations calculation and theory.
The Accounting Operations team works closely with internal key stakeholders where inputs to the process are reviewed pro-actively to ensure no impact to clients, providing additional quality controls and risk mitigation. The role naturally lends itself to wide exposure across a number of teams including Portfolio Managers, Client Relationship, Operations teams and external / 3rd party vendors.
Operational Risk awareness, through exposure to risk assessment of new and existing control functions.
Knowledge/Experience:

The ideal candidate should possess at least 8 years’ experience in performance, fund accounting and/or investment operations.
Experience of working in a globally organized Financial Services organization and managing scalable accounting operations process and people.
Knowledge or practical experience of Aladdin platform preferred but not mandatory.
A strong working knowledge of Equity and Fixed Income securities and Derivative products.
Evidence of process engineering experience and building scalable process and controls through system automation. Data analysis; robotic process automation (RPA) knowledge, although not essential would be an advantage.
Qualifications:

Professional Accounting qualification; Masters in Finance.
