The Director of Data Science will provide leadership and direction to the continued development of our natural language processing (NLP) system which extracts structured data from free form medical text. NLP plays two major roles: (1) providing information that is often not stored in structured fields and (2) bringing contextual information related to the 'how' and 'why' complementing the 'what' and 'when' of structured data, such as reasons for switching medications . Because of the value it brings, the data asset from NLP is used throughout Optum Enterprise Analytics’ products and services.
