Responsibilities
You will support multiple multidisciplinary teams focused on a business domain
You will provide guidance for the goals of the teams, and ensure they're moving the company forward
You will develop the engineering talent on those teams
You will maintain a high bar for recruiting, hiring and performance of the engineering team
You will provide hands-on technical management, guidance, and support including system/design/code review
You will be responsible for the health of your teams' systems and technologies
You will be part of the engineering leadership at Instacart promoting overall engineering excellence and best practices
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience
Strong sense of ownership
The ability to balance business needs, a sense of urgency, and shipping high quality and pragmatic solutions
Experience in building and maturing engineering teams in a startup environment
Strong knowledge of common Web technology such as Ruby on Rails, Python or JavaScript frameworks (React, AngularJS, Ember or Backbone.js)
Extensive experience with cross functional teams and managing relationships with business or operations stakeholders
People management experience, preferably managing first-line managers
Desired
Strong analytical skills
Contributions to the technical communities (e.g. open source, blogging, etc.)
Experience with machine learning and/or data modeling
Knowledge of mobile technologies (Android/iOS)
Experience with b2b systems, working with enterprise customers
Experience with advertising, especially in the CPG and/or retail space
Experience with large and complex product catalogs and/or other structured big data
