The Director Global Travel needs to be a highly motivated individual with the capability to manage a team responsible for $70M annually in travel and expense spend, developing world class processes to effectively control the spend globally and scale to support anticipated growth along with the business. Responsible for managing, planning, analyzing and implementing supply chain strategies, activities, and negotiations in order to drive metrics set by Senior Leadership. Responsible for building and implementing a strategy consolidating and leveraging all Travel business for Symantec. Considers Regional Leadership and other Functional Group input as the strategies are deployed. Develop a Preferred Supplier List for the company that ensures ease of travel at a low price and maximizes Symantec’s ability to save money. Supports development of procedures and systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and streamline processes.
The role requires a flexible, self-motivated individual that can work effectively with minimal supervision. Strong communication skills are essential given the expected amount of interaction with Executive Leadership, internal customers, team members, cross-functional peers and external suppliers. As part of a small and efficient team, adaptability to change and a willingness to accept new challenges with a positive attitude are important prerequisites. This individual will be responsible for cost savings/avoidance strategy, process efficiency and standardization, and continuous improvement. A decisive leader with big-picture vision and bottom-line focus to optimize savings, while driving organizational efficiencies. Additionally, this individual must have an extensive background in expense management systems, corporate credit card programs, online booking tools, supplier negotiations and management.


Responsibilities:
Manage all supplier relationships: Travel (TMC, Airline, Hotel, and Car Rental) and non-travel related including leading price and payment term negotiations, as well as volume and market share commitments compliance.
Develops & Manage a global Preferred Supplier List for use by all Regions and Sites to direct travel spend, leverage business, drive cost reductions, and improve terms.
Assess current travel plans and strategies development short and long term goals and objectives to reduce spend and optimize supply base.
Engage with Executive Management to service their department needs and take advantage of lowest cost travel offerings.
Help Executive Management to understand non-compliance or areas in which their departments spend in excess for travel.
Facilitate regular team meetings with global stakeholders and report overall Travel Performance to Executive Management on a quarterly basis by managing and preparing travel analytics and report metrics in the way of regular business reviews.
Conduct quarterly business reviews to manage the agency/agencies used globally and regionally
Support Business Units (BU’s) as they set their budgets, provide spend, activity levels and future savings strategies
Review spend to focus in identifying areas for consolidation and/or improvement, and help drive an increase in spend under management
Responsible for management reporting and compliance with Travel and Expense card Program.
Use spend information/data, business knowledge and market insights to identify opportunities for sourcing projects and initiatives.
Manage/Troubleshoot customer service issues and ensure compliance with overall corporate program and policies.
Track and field exceptions requests to the T&E policy.
Responsible for internal helpdesk support - responding, routing, and escalating as required using a case/query management software solution (e.g. SalesForce.com) across a range of subject matter (primarily: travel)
Identify and implement new Online Booking Tool (OBT) markets and ensure administration and maintenance of the existing OBT
Support with the Travel Management Company (TMC) relationship, including identifying process efficiencies, driving program compliance, providing saving opportunities, improving customer experience.
Communicate effectively with peers and external peers across multiple time zones
Qualifications:
A degree in Travel Management or Business and/or equivalent work experience in a Corporate Travel environment.
MBA, CPM, APICS preferred.
Managed travel for a large spend corporation (excess $30M annually).
Must be an authority in the industry; possess knowledge on basic trends and protocols as related to global corporate travel.
3+ years travel commodity management experience.
Advanced MS Excel capabilities and experience with online travel booking tools such as GDS, Sabre, and Concur.
Solid problem-solving skills are required.
Strong communication skills are required and customer focus is a must.
European/Global experience considered advantageous.
