Sr Director Corporate Development Ironwood Pharmaceuticals Cambridge

Corporate Development provides the opportunity to create significant value for Ironwood. The team is responsible for bringing in commercial and commercial-ready assets, out-licensing and establishing ex-US partnerships, and sourcing external innovation to expand our pipeline. To support the next phase of Ironwood’s growth, we are hiring two Director/Sr. Director positions, each with primary responsibility for certain therapeutic areas. These individuals will play a key role in the execution of our corporate development strategy, and will be responsible for a broad range of activities including opportunity sourcing and review, business case development, due diligence, strategic and valuation analyses, transactional activities, and executing deals. As Ironwood is highly collaborative, each successful candidate will have deep experience in and be very comfortable working with their cross-functional counterparts to analyze, review and gain internal support for corporate development initiatives and deals.
Responsibilities:
Lead corporate development efforts, with primary focus on certain therapeutic areas within Ironwood
Gastroenterology and Rheumatology
Primary care and emerging therapeutic areas
Acquisition / In-licensing
Identify potential product acquisition / in-licensing opportunities that meet Ironwood’s strategic objectives
Develop key criteria for stage-gated evaluation of each potential asset in order to make go/no-go decisions with least internal and external investment
Lead broad, cross-functional, teams to analyze opportunities and make recommendations to an expanded, corporate development-focused team on a potential transaction
Develop the business case for a given transaction integrating and summarizing scientific, clinical, financial, and market information
Act as the champion for the deal / project within the organization by gaining support across all appropriate functions and relevant individuals in the organization
Negotiate and close transactions consistent with business cases and Ironwood’s corporate goals
Lead out-licensing efforts for select rights to Ironwood’s internally developed assets
Negotiate changes to agreements with current Ironwood partners to align with evolving business needs
Support organic growth and evolution of the corporate development team and partner with teammates to continue to build and strengthen the people, processes and technology

Basic Qualifications:
BA/BS required
7+ years of relevant business experience in the biotech and / or pharmaceutical industry
Demonstrated track record of successfully in negotiating and executing partnership / licensing / acquisition deals in pharma and/or biotech
Valid passport and ability to travel domestically and internationally 20-30%

Preferred Qualifications:
MBA, MD or biomedical PhD is very strongly preferred
Ability to identify and prioritize opportunities, evaluate risks, develop a business case and effectively frame decisions for corporate development team as well as senior management
Demonstrated ability to build rapport with therapeutic and functional area leaders and to effectively lead cross-functional teams
Strong analytical skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong relationship management skills
Desire to be part of team, and demonstrated success in a highly collaborative environment
