The TechBD Manager is responsible for supporting the entire 'Technology Relationship Value Chain' of the firm in the region, ensuring all the capabilities of the technology organizations are harnessed to deliver value to the respective TMT business franchises. The successful candidate will work in partnership with the global team to ensure the effective delivery of Technology Business Development services to Morgan Stanley in the region.
The TechBD Manager will report to the global head of TechBD. The role will also entail maintenance of very close working relationships with business leadership of the firm.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Technology Business Development Manager is the catalyst for the creation of win-win relationships between the various technology organizations and the business divisions of the bank. The role entails significant elements of relationship development and strategy development. In particular the primary elements of the role include:
Strategy and Insight Development
- Take Morgan Stanley internal insights into the trajectory of the industry or particular vendors and package this material (in partnership with TechBD sector leads) so that it can be shared via our banking teams with their key clients. These insights when coupled with meetings with the internal technology experts are high value to the firms clients.
- Share internal IT's view of the future of Fintech with Research and select MS Wealth Management Clients.
Innovation Outreach
- Develop relationships with external VCs, universities, and industry consortiums and use this network to identify emerging industry trends and associated promising technology startup companies. When appropriate and aligned with the strategy of the bank introduce those companies to internal IT or banking.
- Put together a strategy in conjunction with TechBD management and the key regional stakeholders that builds a pipeline of the highest performing emerging FinTech technology companies.

Relationship Management
- Share and follow best practice processes to ensure vendor relationships are appropriately managed in partnership with other stakeholders. This will entail development of processes that ensure appropriate firewalls are in place, vendors are fairly treated during selection processes, and communication with the vendors is coordinated.
- Coordinate escalation of issues (contractual or operational) with vendors, ensuring suitable senior executives at Morgan Stanley and at the vendor are involved as appropriate.
General Management
- Ensure client meeting requests are appropriate scheduled, suitable participants are available, agendas are agreed, and all parties are appropriately briefed.
- Ensure all logistics for external events are coordinated, and executed within agreed budgets.
Event Management
- A hallmark of Morgan Stanley's presence in the industry is its conferences and events for the technology sector. The TechBD manager is responsible for arranging in partnership with technology banking business leadership a number of significant TMT and CTO conferences in the region as well as identifying new events that are appropriate to the local/regional market. These events are designed to create value for the companies who participate in the conferences, expose internal IT leadership to new companies, and deepen the Morgan Stanley banking relationship with these companies.
- Use these events and other external engagements to promote Morgan Stanley as an employer of choice for those who want to experience challenging and innovation applied uses of state of the art technology.
Location
This position is based in New York, however the responsibilities are global and business visits to other business offices are expected.

QUALIFICATIONS
Skills Required
This role requires a mix of technical, business, relationship management, and administration skills. Critically, the successful candidate we have a deep understanding of the FinTech ecosystem and current disruptive opportunities. This should be underpinned by a strong understanding of capital markets. The ideal candidate would have had practical experience as an entrepreneur selling into FIS providers or a line role where they have developed deep expertise in both a business and technology area.
Additional Skills Include:
Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership both at Morgan Stanley and external vendors. Collaboration will be at required at both a business relationship level and a technical leadership level (CTO etc).
- Ability to communicate effectively to clients, partners, business leaders, peers. Particular focus placed on the ability to condense large amounts of technical information into concise action orientated digests.
- Strong applied technical knowledge both of the technologies used in banking (applications and infrastructure) and general technology trends.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a global team of technology business development employees.
- Excellent planning and administrative skills, in particular to ensure the logistics of complex external client events are coordinated correctly.
- Ability to innovate and see opportunities for both banking and IT to benefit from new or existing external relationships.

Experience Required
This role demands a broad set of experiences both technical and managerial.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience working with advanced technology, business development, or strategic vendor relationship management
- Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a deep understanding of emerging technologies and the vendors landscape in the region
- Degree level in engineering, computer science, or finance coupled with relevant business experience.
- Knowledge of Investment banking, Wealth Management business, its associated business processes, and the supporting technology platforms for the entire transactions lifecycle.
- Proven ability to innovate in a way that meets the business needs, challenges the organization to move forward, yet does not compromise the strict control structures of a financial services environment.
- Track record of working within a global team in a matrix environment
