As the Director of Research & Innovation in Open Development you will drive Urban Decay integration and innovative launches through homologation of Urban Decay formulas into the L’Oreal system. You’ll facilitate the flow of information between Urban Decay and L’Oreal teams, and engage key stakeholders (i.e. Urban Decay, Open Development, Safety, Regulatory, Claims, International Raw Material Department and Vendors) to define evolving priorities and working methods. With your keen understanding of in-house technologies, effectively communicate key in-house technologies from Pipe and lead a team of Open Development chemists.
In this role you’ll bring synergy with your strong understanding of the ways of working at Urban Decay and the ways of working at L’Oreal R&I. Use your sharp sense of negotiation and communications skills to effectively collaborate with the brand and successfully move innovative and trending projects quickly. Support the Urban Decay product development team and key vendors with current star launches and evaluate the need for reformulation while delivering the same texture/feel/sensoriality that is already perceived by the Urban Decay consumer.
What you’ll be doing:
Manage the development of global product launches for Urban Decay in Make Up & Skincare categories.
Work directly with marketing to manage multiple projects from conception stage until launch.
Have a clear understanding of the portfolio of already homologated products and also in-house technologies to be able to negotiate the best architecture to fit the concept of launch.
Manage multiple priorities within the organization during the changing dynamics of projects and organizational needs.
Anticipate product/brand requirements, factoring in technical information, consumer trends/perception and market demand
Lead the team in optimizing resources, defining and respecting launch conditions, coordinating activities with support departments in US and abroad; issuing updates on any risks and ensuring product availability in line with commitments
Lead the team in best practices for keeping good relationship with vendors to insure product quality in a timely fashion
Recruit, develop and manage Urban Decay R&I team; ensure development of know-how and expertise
What you’ll need:
Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred in Chemistry Chemical Engineering or Biology plus 10+ years industry experience
Experience leading global project teams is preferred
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Self-Driven and passionate for the Beauty Industry
