The Ops Tech network infrastructure group builds the local, wide area, and wireless networks that power Amazon fulfillment centers and transportation sites worldwide. These networks are used by hundreds of thousands of associates, relied upon by operators of industry-leading fulfillment and transportation systems, and play a critical role in the delivery of shipments to Amazon retail customers. This role is responsible for leading and growing an exceptionally talented organization. As head of Ops Tech Network Engineering, you will drive innovation in all production networks. You will provide thought leadership in the development of next-generation architectures enabling sophisticated automation, advanced robotics systems, and dense industrial IoT deployments. Disruptive ideas are catalysts for your inventions and others follow you because they want to build. You are well-versed in and follow information security best practices.

You should have an uncanny ability to understand large-scale systems, pinpoint problem areas, uphold network quality, and drive design with constant engagement with engineers and business owners. You will work closely with customers in software development and operations to design networks that are quick to deploy, extensively automated and instrumented, and performant. You will build and evolve programs to hire, develop, and retain top talent to successfully operate the installed base, and rapidly deliver new systems to meet emergent business needs.

Amazon leaders are deeply technical, and the Ops Tech Network Engineering Director will provide technical leadership and strategic direction for the team. You will also be responsible for driving material cost reductions in network infrastructure by simplifying designs, leveraging economies of scale, and using commodity building blocks. This leader sets carrier management strategy for the organization.

Basic Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering is required
A minimum of 10 years in a network technology role
A minimum of 10 years in a senior management/leadership role
A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing managers
Proven track record of managing large-scale, high-quality networks
In-depth knowledge of contemporary local, wide area, and wireless networking technologies

Preferred Qualifications

MS or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering
In-depth knowledge of WiFi networking technology, including emergent standards
In-depth knowledge of Wide Area Networking technology and experience operating large, international WANs
Experience in an information security role
