The Director of WRD Strategy will work as part of a team of R&D strategy professionals who are responsible for building out and evolving the core global R&D strategy for Pfizer’s Worldwide R&D organization, as well as play a key role in representing WRD in corporate strategic initiatives, such as integration planning. This role will entail working with multiple Pfizer stakeholders to develop and integrate strategic insights across WRD and the broader organization into decision making. Role is expected to support senior leadership team discussions at the WRD and enterprise levels.

• Drive efforts to build out and evolve the overall strategy and strategic frameworks for Worldwide R&D (WRD) in collaboration with key stakeholders across WRD and the broader organization
• Help identify and set annual strategic objectives and priorities for WRD
• Help identify and drive strategic improvement opportunities within WRD and adjacent functions – this includes both one-time and continuous improvement initiatives
• Lead selected initiatives to advance WRD strategy and priorities including key supporting qualitative and quantitative analyses
• Play key role in crisp articulation of R&D strategy for Board and Pfizer Executive Leadership Team (ELT) in collaboration with WRD’s Operations & Scientific Affairs team
• Play key role in strategic and planning efforts for M&As
• Support key corporate strategic initiatives that involve important R&D aspects/considerations
• Partner with WRD’s Enterprise Science & Technology Operations (ESTO) group on selected technology strategy initiatives as needed
• Partner with WRD’s External R&D Innovation (ERDI) team on selected external innovation initiatives as needed
Qualifications
Work and Educational Experience
• 5-7 years experience from biopharma industry (including R&D experience), either at biopharma company and/or top-tier management consulting firm with pharma focus
• 4+ years experience from top-tier management consulting firm or in-house strategy experience at biopharma company strongly preferred
• Experience and familiarity with the Pfizer organization, particularly R&D/Business Units/Corporate Strategy a plus
• Advanced degree in drug discovery relevant topic – M.D., Pharm.D., or Ph.D. in life sciences a plus
• MBA or hands on demonstrated experience in a variety of key business models and frameworks a plus
Skill Set
• In-depth understanding of pharma R&D strategy, processes and operations, with proven track record of successful strategy development and implementation
• Strategic thinker; strong analytical and problem solving skills and business acumen
• Ability to lead complex matrixed teams and experience in working with/presenting to senior executives
• Well organized, creative, independent, self-motivated individual with exceptional presentation, written, and oral communication skills
• Ability to motivate others to maintain a high and consistent level of excellence in strategy development, project management and outcomes
