Director vCloud Air Solution Marketing VMware Palo Alto

VMware has entered into the Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) market with vCloud Air (vCA). This next year is critical to our success in this emerging transformation of our hybrid cloud offering and company position in the IaaS space, and we need a seasoned marketing leader to create and drive our solutions marketing strategy. This person will report directly to the VP Portfolio Marketing, vCA. Primary responsibilities will be to create the marketing strategy, messaging, positioning and story creation for customer-facing events and meetings based on our three use cases:

- Data Center Extension, e.g., geographical extension, burst or seasonal workloads;
- Data Center Replacement, e.g., data center outsourcing, “getting out of the data center business” due to mergers/acquisitions/spin-offs; and
- Disaster Recovery, e.g., cost-effective, easy-to-use DR for vSphere workloads.

We need a marketing leader with Cloud and/or managed service, virtualization and security expertise, with a proven background of marketing success for early stage technology companies. This person will closely collaborate with many marketing functions including corporate marketing, sales, product marketing, field marketing and partner marketing.

Job Responsibilities:
• Build marketing strategies to accelerate customer adoption in support of the go-to-market plan and revenue and bookings targets
• Lead the customer references program securing top-tier household brand names that showcase use of vCA with practitioners and VP level decision-makers, specifically those who are taking advantage of the HCM and ANS feature set
• Build and execute global positioning and messaging to position vCA as a leader in the IaaS based on the audience persona (practitioner, VP, etc)
• Understand the competitive landscape to properly position and differentiate VMware’s portfolio
• Understand customer trends and demand to better segment, target audiences and use cases
• Understand VMware’s portfolio and how vCloud Air services align with and work with other solutions.
• Engage with customers, regional marketing and sales leaders to gather intelligence and feedback to develop relevant and compelling marketing strategies and messages
• Establish VMware as an IaaS thought leader, working closely with the Communications team (AR/PR)
• Lead service and partner launches, sales support, PR/AR, working closely with product marketing

Qualifications:
• 10 yrs+ marketing experience, including product or solution marketing
• Outstanding communication, story-telling and presentation skills, both written and verbal, internally, at the exec level as well as with customers
• Highly entrepreneurial with a high level of passion, energy, dedication, and an unrelenting drive
• Strong technically to be able to translate messages into customer business value
• Sales oriented marketing leader who can roll up their sleeves to get things done
• Creative, intelligent, self-confident, team player
• Computing experience (cloud, virtualization, security, etc); Cloud IaaS experience highly desired
• Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and work across organizational boundaries and broad range of peers and executives
• Willing to travel (25%)
• Location: Palo Alto/Bay Area preferred but open to other locations
