Director Quality ABB Jefferson City

We are currently seeking an experienced leader to serve our Power Grids division as a Quality Director – this person will be responsible for leading our Quality Assurance [QA] and Quality Control [QC] operations as we manufacture Distribution Transformer products. This position is based out of Jefferson City, MO – this is one of our largest facilities in the country!

Tasks:
This person will have the responsibility of leading quality efforts for our manufacturing operations. The core business is the manufacturing of single-phase and three-phase pad-mount distribution transformers. This person will also be responsible for maintaining ISO 9001 Standards and Customer Warranty activities.

Typical duties/responsibilities for quality may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Achieve QA operational objectives: contributing information & analysis to strategic plans / reviews; preparing & completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying & resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change; etc.
• Meet QA financial objectives: estimating requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions; etc.
• Develops QA plans: conducting analyses; identifying critical control points & preventive measures; establishing critical limits; monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; etc.
• Validate quality processes: establishing product specifications & quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational & performance qualification(s); writing & updating QA procedures; etc.
• Maintain and improve product quality: completing product, company, system, compliance, & surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product / engineering designs as well as manufacturing & training methods; etc.
• Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information & trends (including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations).
• Develop and improve the production standards to drive standardization and spread best practices.
• Drive process standardization in manufacturing and follow changes in the product technology & design.
• Support plants in overall business process improvements (not only limited to operations).
• Operations improvement: develops & executes plans to reduce non-value added costs, increase revenues, and meet customer specifications while delivering products on time.
• Ensures that 4Q Program (the standard ABB process improvement methodology) training and methods are effectively implemented into the organization.
• Customer Relations: ongoing communication with customers; provides support to Sales & Marketing during customer visits to explain & review quality performance; etc.
• Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE): ensures compliance with corporate HSE directives while ensuring that regulatory standards are implemented (while monitoring and reporting progress & results); assesses risks & safety hazards, and implements plans to ensure the safety of our people and equipment; etc.
• People Leadership and Development: ensures that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled, and directed; this person will also guide, motivate, & develop both direct and indirect subordinates.
• Updates job knowledge by studying trends in (and developments in) quality management: identifying & participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations; etc.
• Additional duties may be assigned, as required.

Requirements:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 12 years of professional experience in Quality, Engineering, Operation Excellence, Process Improvement, and/or Manufacturing.
• 2 years of professional experience in a Quality Leadership role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a technical discipline is heavily preferred (Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.).
• Previous leadership experience with the management of subordinates, especially with cross-functional teams.
• Proven expertise with Total Quality Management (TQM).
• Broad experience working with Quality Engineering functions; extensive experience overseeing Quality Assurance and/or Quality Control operations in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
• Proven expertise with ISO-9001 certification; expertise with QS-9000 standards will also be considered.
• Experience auditing under industrial regulations (e.g. ISO, UL, ASQ, RABQSA, ANSI, ASME, etc.).
• Strong analytical skills, especially with data analysis, is heavily preferred – proven experience working with failure analysis, FMEA (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis), FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects, & Criticality Analysis), test engineering, and/or product reliability is a plus.
• Recent experience working with data-driven analytical methodologies for industrial quality applications – especially Statistical Process Control [SPC], Process Capability (Cp, CpK), and/or Process Performance (Pp, PpK) Analysis.
• Recent experience working with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies (e.g. Kaizen, 4Q, Process Improvement, Continuous Improvement, DMAIC, Gemba/Genba, Root Cause Analysis [RCA], etc.). Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt [SSGB or SSBB] certification is a plus.
• Experience working with transformer systems and/or related technologies (e.g. electromagnetics / magnetics, induction systems, power electronics, power products, inverters, etc.).
• Basic technical aptitude and computer skills, especially with MS-Office software.
• Strong analytical and systemic problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
