As a director of engineering you would be leading multiple engineering teams for the Macys.com Digital Platform and Foundational Services, hire and retain the best talent for the teams. The coverage will include all digital organization with focus areas that include but not limited to common Platform components (like services framework, logging, messaging and integration etc.), API management, Mobile Web Platform, Big-Fast Data, Performance Engineering, Foundational architecture.

Essential Functions:
Technical leader and manager of the Platform and Services engineering teams
Responsible for hiring, retaining and mentoring talent
Own the technology roadmap for the systems and responsible for delivering successful projects for these systems
Responsible for portfolio and resource planning for your areas and planning and managing budget for your teams and projects
Partner and Collaborate with various cross functional teams like product management, process, project and program management, infrastructure, operations and business teams etc
Champion all non-functional requirements of platform like high availability, scalability and fault tolerance etc
Ensure successful execution of technical strategies, architecture guidelines and standard by efficient collaboration with architecture, development and other teams
Plan and lead technology evaluation for various critical areas working closely with cross functional teams
Own and manage the stability, availability and performance for your applications/systems
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
BS or equivalent in Computer Science or Engineering
15+ years of experience in the software development and high volume enterprise systems
5+ years of experience in managing and overseeing enterprise level programs which require extensive collaboration across various groups in a matrix organization
5+ years proven leadership experience, coaching, developing and engaging technology teams
5+ years of extensive Java / JEE design and architecture experience with a focus on server side components
3+ years of experience with open source technology technologies preferably within a high volume eCommerce environment
Passionate leader and evangelist with expertise and experience of delivering full life cycle of architecture & engineering centered projects
Expert at delivery and execution in an agile environment
Expertise in architecture & development application and platform components based on SOA architecture
Experience in building scalable, high performing and robust eCommerce applications (with a focus on Java)
Experience and passion to work in a fast paced agile environment, delivering functional features in small time durations
Experience and knowledge of cloud enabled services / applications
Communication Skills:
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Experience communicating and collaboration with executive levels
Reasoning Ability:
Thinker and planner – able to see potential issues and requirements ahead of time plan and execute them
Physical Demands:
