The Director of Commodity Analytics and Own Brands Sourcing is the primary owner of the strategic sourcing/merchant relationship. The director will develop, with the merchant team, the commodity strategy for the BJ’s organization. There is a wide array of commodities that will need to be managed such as (agriculture, paper, plastic, energy, etc). The director will need to have a significant understanding of agricultural commodities and associated hedging practices. The director will be responsible for leading a team of commodity and sourcing experts focused on maximizing margin and revenue. The director and team will be viewed as the in house commodity expert and as such will be consulted for any significant supplier negotiation.

Build and lead the commodity analytics team in the establishment and execution of world class commodity practices that will enhance margin and protect against supply chain disruption. Commodities will include agricultural, paper, plastics, energy, etc.
Lead the own brands sourcing team; establish a calendar of sourcing projects based on ideal market conditions. Provide insight and guidance to the team to ensure development and the successful interaction with all stakeholders involved in the own brand sourcing process.
Develop reporting that will provide insight and direction for the sourcing and merchant teams about current commodity market conditions and provide recommendations about optimal strategies to maximize margin.
Build out and maintain a finished product database that will track commodity fluctuations and provide benchmarks on the finished goods impact.
Track the financial impact of both the sourcing and commodity teams, report the results on as needed basis to the leadership team. Ensure that the own brands sourcing and commodity teams achieve their budgeted margin improvement goals.
Create a commodity team that becomes the in house experts on everything commodity driven. Establish relationships with all stakeholders to ensure their needs from a commodity and sourcing standpoint are being met.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
At least 8+ years of relevant experience
Strong technical skills (SAP, Ariba, Excel, MS Office)
Commodity trading knowledge (Hedging strategy)
Financial analysis and modeling experience
Demonstrated negotiation skills and effective communicator (both written and verbal)
Proven leadership and team building skills
