This position has overall responsibility for technical accounting matters including research and documentation related to current and emerging accounting issues. In this capacity, this individual is required to function effectively as an advisor to Business Unit and Corporate Executives with respect to any technical questions / matters that may arise. This role is required to participate in MSG’s quarterly and SEC reporting process through regular interaction with MSG’s financial reporting group, primarily focused on the drafting and review of disclosures related to significant accounting matters and / or new accounting standards / pronouncements. This position is also required to interact with the Company’s auditors in an effective manner with respect to all technical accounting matters.
Watch: Career Advice This Manager of Technical Accounting & Policy is also responsible for the review of the financial results and subsequent accounting for the Company’s equity method and other investments. In this capacity, this individual will interact regularly with investee executive management as well as MSG’s Principal Accounting Officer. In addition, this position is responsible for the performance of MSG’s annual goodwill and intangible asset impairment analyses, including the management and oversight of any assisting 3rd Party Specialists. Other operational responsibilities include 1) the review of Capital Expenditure requests, including those related to internally developed software (to determine appropriateness of capitalization, and 2) significant revenue contracts, most notably those with multiple deliverables.
This individual is also a principal contact for the evaluation of new accounting standards / pronouncements, specifically with respect to their impact on the Company’s financial statements, business processes and the related internal control over financial reporting. In this capacity, this individual will assist with the development and implementation of MSG’s adoption plans for any new accounting standards / pronouncements. This role is also expected to assist with the development and presentation of internal training materials with respect to existing or new accounting standards.
In addition to these technical responsibilities, this position entails maintaining current accounting policies as well as the development of new accounting policies on an ongoing basis as deemed necessary. This role is also significantly involved in the Company’s business development activities, including but not limited to accounting diligence, purchase accounting guidance and post -acquisition support. Lastly, this role is responsible for the budgeting & forecasting activities of MSG’s Technical Accounting group.
Research, analyze and document all significant technical accounting matters
Interact with the Company’s External auditors with respect to all significant technical accounting matters
Assist with the assessment of the impact of new accounting standards / pronouncements on MSG’s financial statements, business processes and the related internal control over financial reporting
Assist with the development and implementation of the Company’s adoption plan with respect to new accounting standards / pronouncements

Perform the Company’s annual impairment analyses with respect to goodwill and intangible assets, including the oversight and management of any assisting 3rd Party Specialists
Review and approval of Capital Expenditure Requests, including those related to internally developed software
Review significant revenue contracts, particularly those including multiple deliverables
Function as an advisor to Business Unit and Corporate Executives with respect to any technical questions that may arise
Ensure compliance with the Company’s programs with respect to internal control over financial reporting in connection with SOX, including advising management of opportunities for efficiencies within the business unit and accounting processes, along with regular interaction with MSG Internal Audit
Other adhoc projects as deemed necessary
Maintain current accounting policies as well as the development of new accounting policies on an ongoing basis as deemed necessary
This role is also significantly involved in the Company’s business development activities, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:
Provide accounting guidance with respect to any investment / acquisition related matters
Perform accounting / financial diligence surrounding potential target entities
Participate in business development meetings with target and MSG executives
Lead all purchase accounting related matters, including the management and oversight of any 3rd Party Specialists
Provide post transaction integration accounting support
Perform budgeting & forecasting activities of MSG’s Technical Accounting group
Qualifications:
Key Experiences/Achievements
CPA License Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
Must have prior experience working at a Big 4 accounting firm at the level of Manager or above
Must have shown significant success and progression in prior work experience(s)
Must have experience working with SEC clients (if coming from public accounting) or at an SEC Registered Company (if coming from private)
Must have shown the ability to consume large amounts of data / information and be able to extract and summarize relevant facts
Must have shown the ability to perform independent accounting research and the subsequent framing and documentation of accounting issues along with the related conclusions
Must have shown the ability to work independently while effectively prioritizing multiple tasks

Valuation of assets / business for both business combinations and annual or periodic impairment analyses

Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Tools
