The Director, Community and Communications will report to the Vice President, Community and Communications. The Director, Community and Communications will help lead the development, execution and management of WNBC’s community, communications and stakeholder engagement strategies. These would all be forged with the aim of increasing brand awareness and generating ratings growth throughout the DMA.

The Director, Community and Communications will manage all WNBC tent pole community initiatives, as well as those hosted as Duopoly programs with WNJU. The Director will proactively propose new events and initiatives designed to further the priorities and goals of the station while consistently reviewing all external activities to ensure symmetry with the station’s strategic priorities and goals.

The Director will play an important role in strategic communications. A strong writer and researcher, with strategic acumen and extensive public affairs experience, they will regularly construct strategic communication plans to further the priorities and goals of the station. The Director will have existing relationships with key journalists and reporters and will be regularly tasked with developing press releases, media advisories and external messaging, while closely monitoring external coverage.

The Director will also play an important role in vetting external event invitations, constructing event briefings and coordinating external appearances by WNBC executives and news talent. At the direction of the Vice President of Community and Communications, the Director may be asked to serve as an external station spokesperson, in addition to support announcements and strategic initiatives launched by COZI TV and LXTV.

Responsibilities
Community: Develop new strategic community plans which will support existing station priorities and goals, while further growing brand awareness across the DMA
Develop new, community-focused initiatives that the station can embrace across the DMA.
Develop and further cultivate relationships between WNBC and relevant stakeholders.
Manage community-themed components of tentpole station initiatives, including the Health and Fitness Expo, Clear the Shelters and many others.
Manage WNBC participation in NBCUniversal initiatives including Comcast Cares Day and 21st Century Solutions.
Manage internal calendar of events.
Represent WNBC at public events and venues.
Support Duopoly-themed events and initiatives with sister station WNJU/Telemundo 47.

Communications
Construct comprehensive strategic outreach, communication and media plans.
Create press releases, statements and media advisories.
Develop strategic messaging for external use.
Develop strategic internal messaging to support new and existing station initiatives.
Monitor media coverage.
Revise and maintain media lists and write and update talent bios.
Facilitate interviews between WNBC, COZI TV and LXTV executives, talent and external media.
Qualifications/Requirements u>Qualifications/ Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or a related field.
10+ years of professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility attained in public relations, public affairs, journalism, or a combination.
5+ years of professional experience attained as a communications/press office manager and authorized, on the record spokesperson. Must be able to furnish portfolio and/or work samples and news clips demonstrating experience in these twin roles.
Crisis management experience, attained through the management of mega events within the New York Tri-State region.
Intimate knowledge of local, statewide and national legislative process and political landscape.
Impeccable oral and written communications skills, including extensive experience crafting strategic plans and media communications such as press releases, media advisories and statements.
