McDonald's is moving into an exciting phase of its long-term strategy – transitioning from turnaround to growth – and the Strategic Initiative Management team is at the center of the action for the U.S. business. The team supports the implementation of high financial impact and complex strategic initiatives across the U.S. organization. Serving as "stewards of value," the team works closely with senior leadership to ensure initiatives are focused on delivering the greatest benefit for our customers.
The Senior Director leads the six-person Strategic Initiative Management team, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of U.S. Strategy & Insights and interacting frequently with company and Operator senior leadership.

Initiative Development and Execution
In collaboration with cross-functional team members, leads the development and alignment of robust charters and plans/roadmaps for all proposed strategic initiatives.
• Business and brand objectives, scope, resource allocation, key milestones and timeline
• Risk mitigation plan and identification of cross-functional interdependencies
• Stakeholder engagement plan for key messages, program updates and key decisions
For selected high financial impact and complex initiatives, collaborates with cross-functional teams to lead the execution of initiative plans/roadmaps.
• Leads ongoing initiative team meetings to track progress, resolve issues, and adjust plans as required
• Leads or participates in presentations to cross-functional leads and Operator teams
• Anticipates and addresses potential issues or opportunities with the initiative
• Escalates critical issues and recommendations directly to senior leadership or other US/Global departments
• At initiative conclusion, works with stakeholders to examine the initiative’s successes and areas for improvement, then incorporates the results into standardized initiative management tools
Initiative Portfolio Development and Prioritization:
Develops and maintains a portfolio level view of all strategic initiatives
• Single source of truth for senior leadership: initiative financial impact, status and key risks/opportunities
• Consistent, frequent portfolio communication to senior leadership
Leads strategic portfolio planning, in collaboration with senior leadership, to direct the allocation of resources to the initiatives with the high potential impact and likelihood of success
• In conjunction with SVP Strategy & Insights, helps track and direct concept development fund to focus on highest potential return pipeline research
Leads regular, exception-based reporting to senior leadership and facilitates SLT decision-making
• Leads discussions on removing roadblocks, fast-tracking decisions, and reallocating resources
Annual Planning Process Support
• Collaborates with SVP Strategy & Insights to lead the annual strategic planning process with Corporate
• Additionally, supports the regional planning process
Strategic Initiative Management Center of Excellence
Establishes and maintains a center of excellence for Strategic Initiative Management
• Development and implementation of a core set of processes and tools to be used for all key initiatives
• Training of cross-functional teams on how best to use/leverage processes and tools
Management & Development
• Has supervisory and people management responsibility for Strategic Initiative Management team within US Strategy & Insights team (hiring, performance management, performance calibration, compensation, career development, succession planning, terminations)
Minimum Requirements
• MBA required from a top-tier institution (strongly preferred)
• Four to six years of post-MBA experience(with a top management consulting firm strongly preferred)
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Consumer and/or retail experience preferred but not required
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex initiatives
• Ability to frame business opportunities and develop clear, concise and compelling executive-ready communications to various audience groups with minimal guidance
