This Director, User Experience / Creative Director is a newly created global position located in our Phoenix, Arizona offices that promises to provide a unique opportunity to build a world class experience design group from a skeletal state at a Fortune 100 company. With a blank canvas on your desk, we look to you to roll up your sleeves, dig in and masterfully set the hardware, software and visual design strategy for Honeywell Aerospace and contribute directly to creating the next generation of user experiences on a wide variety of products. This position requires a leader with a strong visual, interaction & industrial design background both in strategic design planning and tactical design execution.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, User Experience your primary mission will be to lead and drive a human centered design culture and embedding user experience design across all Aerospace products (avionics and mechanical) and services. You will work across our portfolio to create differentiated brand design languages (DLS), lead interaction, visual & hardware design work across each of our 15 Aerospace Business Enterprises, build and develop our growing design teams, and manage creative direction and oversight of strategic design partners. You will work closely with other Aerospace HUE design leaders in an interdisciplinary studio to create the framework and best practices for a world-class design organization. Together, we will create design strategies, advanced design concepts and deliver outstanding products to market. What You Will Be Responsible For
Driving the development of an Aerospace Design Language (Visual, Interaction & Hardware) to support diverse portfolio and enforce compliance
Providing a clear, consistent voice on design & design standards to project teams and stakeholders
Creating and executing user-centered designs for Honeywell Aerospace products and services that differentiate our brands in the marketplace around the world
Developing best practices for design (design reviews, design crits, etc.) throughout the product development process
Working closely with the product management, engineering, marketing and Advance Technology teams to ensure that Design strategies & standards becomes integral in their standard work and for new offering development including products and services
Collaborating with Aerospace HUE Design Studios and Design COEs & disciplines in developing world class designs and experiences
Working closely with project design teams to guide, support and ensure consistent execution of design within all projects
Collaborating with Aerospace HUE Design leaders to define roadmaps for next generation user experiences and design strategies
Collaborating with Advance Technology to drive advance concept designs
Recruiting, developing and managing design resources in Aerospace

Skills

To be successful in this HUE Strategic Design Leadership role, you will need to have proven expertise in the following talents, skills and experiences:
Demonstrated experience in developing enterprise level Design Languages (DLS), Style Guides, CMF and related design assets
Demonstrated experience in establishing design best practices across organizations
Strong portfolio of applying user-centered design practices in product development, Interaction & Visual design environments
Demonstrated leadership experience; successfully scoping, planning and executing projects in accordance with a phases and gates development process
Experience in understanding and synthesizing user needs using a variety of practices
Experience in design strategy, trends and how they apply to brand and product planning
Experience in evaluating products using: design trends, heuristic reviews, competitive benchmarking, formative and summative usability studies
Demonstrable talent in developing industry-leading design teams
Experience creating low-fidelity to high-fidelity appearance models and prototypes
Experience directing and managing external design firms and model shops
Clear evidence of leadership and the ability to get things done in a matrix environment
International experience working with regional businesses and design teams

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Interaction design, user experience design, visual design or related degree.
Minimum of 7 years of hands-on design experience (HW/Product Design or visual/interactive design).
Minimum of 5 years of experience leading user experience or design teams/organizations.

Experience with Color, Materials and Finish design trends, planning and specification
