The Director, Engineering is responsible for monitoring and expediting the design and development of Show and Ride equipment, components and systems for a large multi-faceted theme park attraction(s) under contract with vendor(s). The Director provides insight, scheduling, and consultation services on behalf of USH Technical Services during all aspects of the progress of work. Other assigned tasks may include assisting with updates for Show and Ride technical specifications, Scope Templates, and Companion Documents, show and ride systems research, patent pursuit and defense duties, contribution to show and ride systems design, design reviews, or analysis, field assistance for installation, test and adjust, and other such tasks as defined by Senior Engineering manageme

• Supports Universal Creative by providing manpower to review and participate in design/installation phases for new projects at USH
• Initiates new projects at USH to address issues at existing attractions for compliance to standards, to replace out of date equipment, increase up-time and ease of maintenance and to address concerns of the Park Operators
• Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes conform with Universal specifications, ATSM and local codes
• Leads design/production reviews at vendor locations ensuring product quality, specification conformance, and schedule accuracy
• Manages budgets/schedules for all work pertaining to control systems
• Establishes quantitative requirements/specifications based on interpreting creative intent and employing Universal Specifications
• Produces scopes of work and manages progress from design through installation
• Reviews designs/documentation from contractors ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and specifications
• Develops/oversees project schedules and budgetary demands
• Manages installation, test and adjustment of show and ride systems to ensure compliance with contract specifications
• Oversees contractor’s mock-up, prototype, and acceptance testing efforts to ensure results reflect the final installed system

• Provides engineering technical (calculation, design, drafting, testing and research) support to the Ride/Show teams.
• Reviews Vendor-provided design review documents. May include drawing review, component selection review, calculation review, test plan review, test results review, or review of other deliverable items as specified by engineering management
• Edits and updates S/R engineering documents as specifically assigned by S/R engineering management. Assist USH Engineering management in enforcing and interpreting specified requirements to the project teams and vendors
• Assist project assigned S/R technical personnel as directed through the process of bidding, designing, manufacturing, testing, shipping, installation, start up, and commissioning of S/R systems
• Coaches, motivates and provides work direction to hourly union staff to promote safe and efficient operations while also exceeding client expectations of communication, responsiveness, quality of service, and technical efficiency
• Participation in reward/recognition, employee events, and employee satisfaction action planning
• Ensures all safety procedures are understood and followed by providing up to date safety training to all employees and auditing procedures through active participation in EHS responsibilities
• Ensures collective bargaining agreements are upheld by partnering with HR and Labor Relations to maintain positive union relationships
Qualifications/Requirements • Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university in Mechanical Engineering required. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• 10-15 years of experience in the design, specification, implementation, testing, and commissioning of industrial systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 10-15 years of operations management/team leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability & willingness to work overtime, weekends and holidays with short notice
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Proficient with basic engineering deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and Distributed Control System (DCS)/ Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) configurations. Proficient with the development of Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) and the development of Control Strategies. Proficient with process control algorithms and proficient with DCS/PLC database programs.
• Knowledgeable of major regulations and industry codes and standards applicable to instrumentation and Controls.
• Distributed Control System (DCS)/ Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) configurations experience along with experience integrating PLCs into a DCS system.
• Working knowledge of VISIO CADD and/or PDS 2D.
