Experience Design Director Cognizant New York

We are seeking a New York based Director, Experience Design (Creative Director) to be an exuberant leader in our innovation lab. The Creative Director role is responsible for harnessing the big ideas and guiding the detailed craft needed to deliver quality, cutting edge conceptual, impeccably executed digital experiences. They will provide hands-on oversight on a portfolio of active projects and ensure that work is artfully communicated to clients.
You are an experienced, confident and generous design leader who respects people, ideas and quality. You are an informed risk taker who says "Yes, let's try that!" a lot. You are active in conversations in the design community. You can inspire and frame ideas from both a creative and a strategic point of view, based on trends, human-centered research and best practices. You are involved in mentoring direct reports and project team contributors, and embracing and propelling the studio’s spirit of exploration, open collaboration and making.

Responsibilities:
Provide creative leadership and contribute to individual projects designing experiences for cross-platform systems, IoT, and data analytics driven experiences.
Ensure the work created by your teams is cohesive, top quality and is inline with and exceeds client expectations.
Oversee the work of all design concentrations including visual design, interaction design, design research and product and service prototyping.
Coach the collaboration of cross-disciplinary teams (strategy, engineering, data science and product management).
Storytelling to connect the dots of user needs, business contexts, concepts, design principles and experience details.
Oversee and participate in activities in the co-innovation lab space: client presentations, ideation workshops, prototyping, user testing and technology exploration.
Mentorship of direct reports to guide their growth and success.
Plan and lead the execution of design research from contextual inquiry to usability testing.
Maintain a sense of humor and positive attitude throughout.

Qualifications

10+ years’ experience in leading user experience and digital design engagements across multiple industries (e.g. financial services, life sciences, retail, communications and technology) in a consulting or agency environment.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in design or related field.
Experience in leading the design of user experiences for digital products and services from product and/or business model definition through to market launch.
Specific methodologies for collaborating, problem solving and planning with a cross-disciplinary team, including experience in agile processes, lean UX and rapid prototyping.
A passion for exploring new technologies and the human experiences they create.
A passion for and knowledge of pioneering user experience and design trends.
Refined UX design craft (visual, interaction & research) with secondary skills either in software development or industrial design.
A mind for big ideas and abstractions with the knowledge that an experience truly lies in the details.
A cutting edge portfolio including designs of cross-platform systems, IoT, and data analytics driven experiences.
Exceptional leadership with the confidence and integrity to earn client and internal team confidence quickly.
Ability to thrive in a fluid and entrepreneurial environment and embark on regional and global travel as needed.
