Director Corporate Real Estate Design Construction Projects United Airlines Chicago

This role is the primary organizational and project management role for Design and Construction Baggage system projects across our hub network. The director will lead all aspects of Baggage Handling System (BHS) projects from inception to completion in accordance with corporate policies and standards and governing regulations and requirements. The director will manage a team of 3 - 5 project managers. There is over $200M in construction projects planned in this portfolio.
Responsibilities
Project development and formulation of scope: implement and provide oversight for in field site surveys, meeting and conducting contactor walk through, development of order of magnitude costs estimates and capital planning, meeting with various user groups throughout the company to understand needs and timing of requested projects.
In-field project supervision/implementation: coordinate and manage relationships with Airport Authority and governing bodies, coordinate project to minimize impact to United's operation
Administrative tasks: oversee development of request for proposal, preparation of funding requests, negotiation and execution of contracts with outside vendor's, closeout of projects, processing pay applications
Supervision and Professional Development: Assist project managers in the execution of capital improvement projects. Provide coaching and professional development to project managers.
Qualifications


Education
Bachelor’s Degree required
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management preferred
Knowledge/Skills
Understand construction management and design management process. Conversant in construction terminology and have understanding of assembly methods. Basic understanding of jurisdictional code requirements required
Experience with baggage system design, and installations, including TSA inline screening systems, baggage system controls and operations
Same as “required” with addition of understanding of aircraft gating requirements and gate/ticket podium installation. Basic understanding of airline operations terminology and process preferred
Experience
Minimum four years in commercial construction at Sr. Project Manager/Project Executive level or above required
Minimum of five years in baggage system design and implementation

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
