Heineken USA Operations aims at strategically supporting business growth and delivering value through the operational execution of supply chain activities. Operations are responsible for all supply chain activities including demand forecasting, supply planning, inventory management, customer services and logistics.
This position leads the Transportation and Distribution activities for HUSA, including the contracting, execution and performance of all freight, as well as the management of externally contracted warehousing. The Director of Logistics plays a critical role in the broader Supply Chain organization, responsible for planning and managing logistics capacity and capability, delivering consistently high customer service performance, sustainable cost savings and strengthening the effectiveness of our vendor relationships. This position will be responsible for the execution of relevant strategic initiatives to enable business execution.
• Accountable for leading best practices identification / application in overall work processes, analytics, delivery methods, service and sustainability efforts
• Leading the development and execution of specific cost savings projects across the network
• Ensure sufficient transportation and warehousing capacity for all customer deliveries
• Manage the financial budgeting / reporting and spending processes for all Logistics costs
• Manage relationships with third party logistics service providers ( transportation, warehouses providers etc)
• Support network design and optimization initiatives to ensure HUSA has the lowest cost / highest service logistics network
• Work directly with Sales and Distributors to deliver against Commercial requirements
• Ensure safety and regulatory compliance at Demand Points


The role will work collaboratively with key business partners to ensure effective management, interacting with Commercial, Finance, Legal, IT and other Operations functions to identify and meet business requirements at a tactical level. Externally the role will work with Vendors and other Stakeholders necessary to perform and deliver the requirements of the role.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The role is focused on operational execution and the tasks necessary to ensure effective logistics solutions are in place to meet the needs of the business. The role will be required to achieve the following deliverables, including but not limited to:
1. Logistics Capacity Planning
Manage the capacity planning process throughout the supply chain network to ensure the ability to meet demand.
• Participate in ‘near term’ and ‘long term’ forecasting and planning to understand requirements for the supply chain
• Model impacts for the supply chain, anticipate and mitigate risks and put in place the right resources to support the business
• Deliver the right solution to support sales and depletions including external service providers, ports of entry, warehousing, transportation etc

2. Process Management
Ownership of all relevant processes and tools to ensure effective Logistics management.
• Ensure the definition, maintenance and improvement of all operating processes
• Ensure compliance with Heineken standard operating procedures and any other internal / external compliance requirements
• Ensure adherence to standards and requirements for transportation and warehousing (e.g., FIFO, limiting aged products etc)
• Ensure effective and cost efficient operating tools to support operations management

3. Performance Management
Deliver a culture of performance management and ensure delivery of agreed performance metrics.
• Define and deliver against key performance indicators (KPI’s) and key success factors within Logistics (e.g., on time performance, case fill rate, cost per case, customer satisfaction etc)
• Work with other Operations functions to agree targets to enable performance improvement, balancing cost, service and inventory in order to deliver sustained business value and implement actions to ensure achievement of performance metrics
• Provide a comprehensive and clear KPI reporting suite demonstrating performance levels and insights

4. Logistics and Vendor Management
Effectively manage and oversee third party vendor relationships to enable supply chain execution.
• Support the definition and implementation of the vendor management strategy in line with business requirements
• Support the evaluation, tender selection and appointment of third party vendors to provide services to the business (including sea freight, importation services, customs brokerage, warehousing, road transportation, returns management services etc) ensuring best-in-class business partners and best value for the business
• Manage the day-to-day operating relationships with third party vendors and ensure compliance and performance against agreed contract terms (including but not limited to costs, service, inventory)
• Ensure the compliance of any relevant standards or legislation (including Heineken standard operating procedures)
• Ensure safety and quality is ‘at the heart of what we do’ in relation to logistics management and vendor partners

5. Logistics Strategic Planning
Provide an input to strategic planning enabling identification of opportunities to improve performance and drive efficiency.
• Participate in ‘near term’ and ‘long term’ strategic as required planning to understand Logistics requirements
• Collaborate with other business functions to anticipate future requirements and opportunities

6. Logistics Cost Management
Ensure the governance and control of logistics spends against agreed budget.
• Provide input to the logistics cost budget and any other financial planning requirements
• Deliver against agreed costs (overall and cost per case / HL)
• Ensure effective control and reporting of all logistics spend
• Identify and mitigate risks which may impact cost performance
• Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities (TCM)

7. Continuous Improvement
Ensure an aligned approach to continuous improvement and delivery of on-going business value.
• Implement a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) approach to identifying and eliminating loss and waste within supply chain
• Utilize relevant and appropriate business tools to drive improvements
• Identify opportunities to drive continuous improvement in Total Cost Management, Service, Optimization and Process Improvement Projects working collaboratively with business stakeholders

8. People Management

• Ensure effective people management and the development of core capabilities.
• Manage any direct reports to ensure the delivery of functional responsibilities
• Ensure effective people management in place including but not limited to objective setting, training and succession planning

Business Relationships
• Enable mutually beneficial business relationships through needs identification and the delivery of business requirements
• Collaborate with business Stakeholders to identify and resolve any critical issues impacting the business
• Includes both key internal and external relationships:
• Heineken USA – Key business functions including Operations, Finance, Sales, Legal, IT, Other
• Distributors – Key relationships within the Distributor Network
• Other Stakeholders – Including Distributors, Logistics Vendors and any other key Stakeholders

Role Profile
• Educated to Degree Level (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business, Finance or other relevant subject)
• 7-10+ years experience in Logistics within Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
• Experience of leading and motivating x-functional Teams
