Plans, coordinates, and directs the company’s quality assurance and quality control program to ensure smooth and continuous operation of construction services in a cost effective manner and in compliance with established codes, standards and customer specifications.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Provide the necessary leadership and strategic planning to develop, implement and maintain a quality assurance and quality control program to support the company mission and ongoing continuous improvement effort to eliminate defective work and associated costs.
Collaborate with the various Vice Presidents, Department Heads, Field Supervision, and Affiliated Company Directors to ensure the quality assurance and quality control program is comprehensive, incorporates best practices, and is consistent with the strategic plan of the company.
Prepare and update main policy writing body for the quality assurance and quality control program.
Administer and implement the company quality assurance and quality control program manual that is in compliance with established codes, company standards and customer specifications. Update as required.
Evaluate, recommend and implement steps to achieve and maintain individual and/or company accreditations and certifications that would be beneficial to the company, such as LEED, ISO, etc…
Administer and provide ongoing continuous improvement and implementation of the quality assurance and quality control program.
Plan for and provide training and personnel development opportunities for company employees in an effort to build a culture of quality throughout the company. For Example, provide training and hold seminars with regards to Quality and Quality Program such as Foreman Academy, seminars on Code Issues with Field Personnel, Estimators, etc.
Assist the various business units with business development efforts by participating in pre-qualifications and customer presentations by providing data and marketing material to support the company’s quality mission statement and program. Also have frequent contact with customers to build positive customer relationships.
Review contract documents and participate in pre-planning of projects to provide input to the project team for preparation of estimates, schedules, and project work plans.
Participate in pre-job and post-job meetings to communicate quality assurance and quality control expectations and lessons learned.
Update the Project Manager of progress, issues, and problems related to the project and work with the Project Superintendent to coordinate all aspects of the project plan.
Recommend and oversee the hiring, training, and assignment of quality control resources (inspectors) for the performance of inspections and project related duties.
Ensure all work plans incorporate the requirements of the contract drawings, specifications, and submittals and that all materials, equipment and workmanship are inspected for compliance.
Provide input and direction to resolve quality control problems (non-conformances) through proper inspections, root cause analysis and corrective actions plans.
Track, Follow-up and Maintain costs associated with Warranty Issues and Rework. Produce reports and recommendations to Construction, Estimating and Upper Management.
Coordinate and manage the process of flowing down expectations and requirements of the quality assurance and quality control program to respective sub-contractors, suppliers and other vendors who are contracted to perform work for the company. Evaluate subcontractors and follow-up with Quality Pre-qualifications.
Understanding of ASME and National Board Codes relative to welding, documentation and Code Stamp program. Prepare for National and State Agency audits. Work with Quality Assurance Manager in developing ASME Quality Program.
Coordinate with outside testing agencies as necessary.
Maintain work performance records, documentation and other related compliance items as necessary.
Exercise the authority to halt work on nonconforming work and activities.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises the Manager of Quality Assurance– Welding. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction or related field or equivalent 10+ years of experience.
Strong organizational, managerial and interpersonal skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite Projects.
Proven ability to supervise personnel.
Successful candidate must be able to work in and around a construction site to review work and perform quality audits.
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Work is within a shop environment but may require travel.
Must be able to work effectively within a matrix organization with many project disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
Affiliation and certification with recognized QA/QC associations such as American Society for Quality (ASQ) desirable.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock where employee must utilize the proper personal protective equipment and/or other safeguards for their protection. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
