In this senior leadership role, you will not only have broad responsibility for the delivery of our video applications and their associated back-ends and platforms, but also play a foundational role in determining how those solutions will be built, brought to market, and managed for maximum performance and availability. You have the experience, expertise and passion for building and leading teams who can deliver full-stack solutions at large scale and the ability to context switch and work at strategic, architectural, and operational levels where required. You will be passionate about operational excellence at scale and able to design and deliver the team structure, processes and discipline to deliver truly world-class performance and availability at a global scale.
Drive operational excellence across all Yahoo video applications and platforms through planning, design and implementation of strategic processes
Ensure scalability, maintainability, reliability and recoverability of Yahoo video platforms, applications and systems
Provide world-class uptime and availability of Yahoo video services
Ensure required performance, capacity and security for all Yahoo video applications and platforms
Assist with budgeting and planning for all capital equipment
Partner heavily with the Engineering teams in design, development and implementation of systems and processes to ensure scalable architecture deployable globally with smooth migration into production
Identify trends before they become production problems. Follow any problems with rigorous posts mortem and remediation.
Recommend and implement improvement in architecture, workflow, employee training and/or hardware/software
You Must Have
10+ years of production engineering related leadership experience, ideally with a BS degree, preferably in Computer Science
Extensive professional experience building and managing technical operations for global, consumer-oriented, high availability, 24x7 production environments
Demonstrable strong experience leading, managing, recruiting, retaining and developing production engineering teams
Strong level of technical expertise in systems architecture, systems administration and troubleshooting in a Unix environment
Experience implementing and operating BCP and HA systems
Strong project leadership skills
Familiarity with common network topologies, protocols, and tools
Proven ability to solve problems in nonstandard and innovative ways
Vendor management and planning / budgeting skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
The successful candidate will be persistent, result oriented, and a self starter
