Direct a team of communications officers and support staff charged with leading, promoting and stewarding the Library’s vision through the web/internet, other media, events, publications and specific public relations strategies to ensure that Harvard is recognized by internal and external audiences as the leader in academic and research libraries.
•In coordination with the Library’s senior leadership team, contribute to the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan designed to deepen awareness and understanding of the Library’s resources and impact with key internal and external stakeholders including program goals and approaches to achieving those goals.
•Advise the Library leadership both strategically and tactically with organizing and defining messages, researching and writing stories, and creating and executing press strategy.
•Support events with creative, integrated approaches to marketing communications.
•Develop and maintain relationships with international, national, regional and local news media.
•Create and write press releases, talking points, Q&A and other briefing materials.
•Coordinate and manage the release of Library news as well as respond to related press inquiries.
•Collaborate with relevant constituents to effectively manage public relations matters affecting the Harvard Library. Respond quickly and effectively to sensitive issues.
•Create and communicate consistent Harvard Library branding to internal and external audiences.
•Develop and manage innovative, creative and experimental modes of communication to advance the Harvard Library.
•Analyze and assess the effectiveness of different communications strategies and mechanisms both existing and proposed

Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years progressive experience in public relations, communications, marketing or directly related field required. Must have experience with both internal and external communications, managing press relations and developing communications strategies. Demonstrated experience writing, editing and managing social, web and print channels.
