Director Vendor Management Harvard University Cambridge

This new, senior position is looking for an experienced vendor management professional to build and evolve a vendor management office for HUIT that will further enhance our relations with vendors to ensure the utmost value and performance from suppliers for the university. This role is responsible for providing strategic direction and recommendations on vendor management best practices, for supporting development of vendor related service plans, for defining and overseeing IT vendor management across HUIT, and creating sourcing governance processes, procedures and tools to support and enable the organization's short and long-term IT strategies. This leadership position partners and collaborates with IT and non-IT leadership and other enterprise vendor governance and sourcing management teams on best practices to ensure effective contract negotiations and execution.
Responsibilities include:

• Vendor Strategy Development & Execution – development of a vision and multi-year vendor and sourcing strategies that address the current IT requirements and anticipate the future needs of HUIT and be perceived as a strategic partner and innovative anticipator.
• Vendor Performance Management - monitor, analyze and evaluate HUIT vendor performance against metrics on a regular basis. Act as an internal escalation point for IT vendor issues. Work closely with HUIT service owners to identify performance measures and service level agreements
• Vendor Contract Management - manage/construct terms and conditions of vendor contracts, define scopes and negotiate changes against the contract's commercial and financial terms over the life cycle of the contractual agreement. Partner with embedded vendor relationship managers to conduct licensing, legal review, interface with Business ISO, etc.
• Vendor Relationship Management - Creates and manages the strategic relationships with key technology vendors. Maintains positive partnerships benefiting HUIT and the Vendor.
• Technology Sourcing – Assist service owners within HUIT as well as the CIOs across the schools to identify the right vendors, create sourcing strategies which include efficiency, quality cost effectiveness, negotiations, contract development, RFP's. RFI's, etc. and ensure that periodic reviews of vendors and technology
• Financial & Budget management – track expenses of all software, hardware, and labor contracts, and expenses of the vendor management team. Forecast demand for services and licenses. Develop funding models to improve transparency for university-wide licensing and create predictable team funding.
• Talent Development – develop/maintain/motivate a high performing vendor management team with focus on talent management (development plans, skills currency, training, conferences, succession planning)
• Thought and Change Leadership – provide thought leadership to HUIT and its business partners related to vendor management, sourcing, and services & technology innovation.
Basic Qualifications • 7-10 years of leadership experience in vendor management roles of increasing responsibility and complexity
• Staff management experience
• Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred
Additional Qualifications • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including experience expressing technical, information security, and contractual details in a concise and effective manner
• Project management mindset with excellent organizational skills
• Ability to establish strategy and objectives, set clear expectations, demand high performance and reliably deliver on the strategies.
• Proven results in leading business or technology functions with a focus on vendor and sourcing management and continuous improvement
• Ability to inspire and motivate teams and individuals, including influence, partnership, and collaboration.
• Strong leadership, relationship management, influence & negotiation management, and conflict management skills
• Microsoft Office including Project, Visio proficiency preferred
