Director Regulatory Affairs Charles Schwab San Francisco

What you’ll do:
For each regulatory rule proposed, understand its impact on each facet of the CSIM business, determine whether to attempt to influence the final rule, and if appropriate, respond to the proposals in writing.
Lead projects to ensure we comply with the new rules by the regulatory deadline. These projects range from modest in scope to extremely large (e.g., MMF Reform).

Focus on regulatory issues affecting CSIM’s clients, in particular investor protection and investment fund regulation.

Collaborate with Schwab legislative affairs, legal, compliance, portfolio, and product teams to assess potential client and business impact of regulatory developments.

Drive the development of comment letters and recommendations with respect to proposed regulations with relevant stakeholders.

Conduct impact analysis of potential and final regulations on Schwab’s clients, Schwab and CSIM

Provide periodic and ad-hoc internal report to senior management team on regulatory developments.

Identify and manage cross-platform policy projects with the goal of ensuring a client centric and consistent approach to regulatory responses and implementation.

Coordinate participation in key industry groups and ensure key takeaways are communicated to senior management team. Where appropriate, participate in industry working groups.

What you have:

Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or post-graduate degree highly preferred

Minimum 10 years of experience with an investment management company

Strong working knowledge of the asset management industry, the products and services offered through investment advisors and platforms, applicable rules and regulations and the current regulatory environment.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including being able to synthesize data, develop recommendations and present to senior management

Strong interest/passion for our industry, creating plans to identify opportunities and overcome challenges

Strong partnership and influencing skills across all levels and departments

Curiosity, a can-do attitude and the ability to learn quickly and thrive in a complex, dynamic environment

Ability to manage multiple projects that vary in scope and complexity simultaneously

Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently to meet tight deadlines with little supervision

Leadership and relationship-building skills, including the ability to influence and build consensus with diverse partners at all levels

Comfort with ambiguity and an ability to adapt to change
