The Director, News Partnerships, will work with VP News Partnerships to manage NBC News relationships with NBC stations and broadcast groups (approx 230 stations). The director is responsible for developing strategic plans for the growth of NBC News content on stations broadcast and digital platforms. S/he will work with network executives and producers to help improve the performance of NBC News programs and provide high quality content for local newscasts.
Ground breaking ability to partner with stations on NBC News projects and investigative reporting
Supervise department producers and lead daily editorial direction to create content for local lead-ins to network newscasts and produce reports on division wide projects. Tailor this content to achieve the editorial and promotional goals for NBC News and its affiliates based on region, demographics and news interests. Must ensure the highest levels of journalistic, legal, production and promotional standards are maintained
Lead editorial plan for collaborating with stations on investigative reports
Well versed on local station strategies, initiatives and best practices across the local news industry
Analyze market and ratings research and develop strategy for stations where network news programs are underperforming. Work with network news research to develop practices that maximize audience retention. Respond to ratings fluctuations in specific television markets through targeted marketing of news content and promotion.
Station relations: Develop strong contacts with General Managers, News Directors and Executive Producers at stations. Answer questions regarding coverage and breaking news from stations. Write preview messages explaining NBC News coverage of major news events and assist Specials to improve the notification procedures. Survey major stations on interest in network special reports
Create and consult with News Directors and Executive Producers on major coverage projects and develop content marketing plan. In addition to producing on-air content these plans should incorporate digital media marketing initiatives, including websites, mobile and social media promotional content for Facebook, Twitter and others. Survey stations to determine success of projects and provide feedback to program producers.
Identify future branding and promotional opportunities for stations as it relates to our news programs
Provide coverage as necessary to stations, as well as assisting in obtaining their footage for various NBC platforms.
Work with specific stations and groups to support their morning and evening newscasts and audience retention for Today and Nightly News.
New Audiences: Grow the Hispanic and African American lead-in audience by partnering with NBC Latino, Telemundo and TheGrio.com to develop on-air and digital content for the affiliates. Work as a conduit to offer applicable affiliate content for NBC Latino and TheGrio.com
Assist in preparations for NBC News presentations for Affiliate meetings
Maximize clearance for NBC News broadcasts
Manage meetings and teleconferences among News Directors to develop new approaches to coverage.
Work with Network News Research to develop practices that maximize audience retention
Research, gather and produce newsletter illustrating best practices occurring at NBC stations
Qualifications/Requirements Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in either journalism, communication, media or another related field
Minimum 3 years’ experience working in local news; medium to large market as a News Director, or as a news manager (I.e. Managing Editor, Exec Producer, or Assistant News Director) in a major market leading a large, complex news operation in a highly competitive and culturally diverse television market, OR
Minimum 3 years’ experience working in network news; as an Executive Producer, Bureau Chief, or currently Director or Deputy Director
Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience of small to medium staff
Strong news judgment & communication skills are essential

Willingness to travel and work long hours with short-notice or little or no warning
Ability to work effectively in a stressful, deadline driven environment where teamwork is fostered
Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
