Director of Global Innovation to be located in Lancaster, PA. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Global Technology, the Director of Global Innovation will be responsible for identifying and leveraging emerging science and technology that is essential to the achievement of new and core business strategic and operational plans. Additionally, the Director of Global Innovation will work closely with New Product Development, Quality Assurance, Marketing, Product Management, Manufacturing, and other key innovation stakeholders to insure effective design, development, and execution of all related activities.
Key Responsibilities of the Director of Global Innovation:
Acting as the overall owner of the global innovation and new knowledge core process
Developing and implementing a global innovation strategy that supports the overall direction of the business
Leading, mentoring, and developing technical talent to align with the organization’s strategic plan
Collaborating with AWI marketing and technology leaders in the identification and development of multi-generation technology platforms that effectively support global product platforms and targeted new product portfolios/initiatives
Insuring all front-end activities are in alignment with current and projected business strategies, targeted capabilities, and market needs
Evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of new product concepts and potential modifications to existing products
Supporting the resolution of business support requests aligned with technical issues that cannot be resolved through other functional groups
Identifying, exploring, and providing justified development proposals for new materials, processes, platforms, and applications that enable profitable growth beyond the core business
Coordinating and optimizing global research programs and capabilities to ensure effective asset utilization across all functions and geographies
Ensuring technical knowledge is protected via the proper intellectual property process to ensure strong market positions and defensible paths for growth
Identifying and developing/acquiring new technical skills and capabilities to improve and regenerate core, new and emerging technologies
Creating, maintaining, and prioritizing a queue of all innovation activities at each of the defined stage-gate phases
Developing and managing the cost center budget
Acting as a prime spokesman to customers and/or technical community on technological capabilities and future efforts
Acting as a relationship manager for key university interactions / programs
Required Qualifications for the Director of Global Innovation:
Bachelor’s degree degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or other relevant technical field of study
10+ years of business experience
Strong leadership, facilitation and meeting management skills
Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities at one time
Strong integration skills with proven experience in working with multiple levels of the organization
Able to drive all parts of the organization to consensus
Outstanding communication skills (verbal, written, presentation based) at all levels of the organization and across all functional units
Desired Qualifications for the Director of Global Innovation:
Masters or PhD in Engineering, Chemistry or other relevant technical field of study, strongly desired
