As a UX Design Director, you’ll tackle complex systems and transform them into intuitive, accessible, and easy­ to­ use designs for billions of people around the world — from first­ time users to expert designers. Achieving this goal requires collaboration with product teams and stakeholders throughout the organization — from concepting to smooth roll­ outs.
Responsibilities:

Your responsibility is to the user and to advocate for her through user­-centered design practices and methodologies. You will empathize with and thoroughly understand her goals, desires and preferences both holistically and within specific interactions. Additionally, you will contribute to the UX practice at Shutterstock and evolve the discipline to meet the needs our of products.
Contribute to overall growth of the UX team
Provide oversight to multiple product teams with attention to team building, mentoring, guiding diverse creative talent and enforcing a standard of excellence across the organization
Manage the careers and growth of three or more mid­level designer and lead the hiring and growth path for the design pillar in UX.
Facilitate and shepherd solutions in all phases of the product development lifecycle, including identifying opportunity, product ideation and definition, UI design, and optimization as the market and users evolve.
Estimate effort and know when to ask for support. Being accountable to timelines and project needs and product ecosystem
Support teams as they present work to stakeholders and ensure alignment with organizational goals and system needs.
Make platform and display considerations that support the customer and business. Bring innovation and inspired thinking with attention to micro­interactions.
Conceptualize and articulate strong, user­centered and delightful interactions, while balancing the needs of the business and the capabilities of technology

Basic Qualifications:

8 + years of experience. Agency experience welcome.
Degree in Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Motion, Architecture, Urban Planning, Graphic Design, HCI, or related field of study (or work experience in lieu of degree)
Ideally you know Sketch, InVision and Google Apps, although the Adobe Suite works just as well. A bit of coding is a BIG bonus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowing the difference between responsive and adaptive. And why sometimes native is better.
Think of interaction design as a chance to show­off
Comfortable working in the Agile methodology
Listen well and have excellent speaking and writing skills and can articulate your decision and design process
Respectful when challenging assumptions and give and receive feedback with equal grace
Can estimate work, commit and deliver on deadlines and are vocal when risk arise.
Design aesthetic. Your documents are simple, informative and filled with value. There is an attention to detail that borders on neurotic
You put pen to paper before you pick up a mouse
Curiosity that drives you to look at the world as a solution instead of just existing patterns and mental models
Understand system design and can apply a design library as well as extend it. And you know the difference but like to flirt with the boundaries
