Director Software Engineering Data Device Corporation New York City

Job Description:
• Reports to the VP of Engineering on a regular basis. Works closely with senior staff and Engineering and Certification management to establish short and long range program and operating goals.
• Participates in developing company strategic plan, corporate initiatives and budget process. Implements and monitors performance of department plans and initiatives.

• Coordinates with Sales and Customer Requirements Departments to evaluate customer specifications, engineering and regulatory requirements, and pricing for new projects.
• Focus on workforce development by recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating and developing staff. Practice proactive performance management, recommend and initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Proven management skills including leadership of high-performing team, employee development, and effective change management.
• Ability to work well independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team.
• Ability to build effective working relationships, persuade and influence, and problem-solve complex issues.
• Strong communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent conceptual, technical, and financial skills
• Experience in real time communications software
• Experience in Aerospace software development including DO178.
• Experience in motor control software.
• Own and manage the multiple rapid prototyping and product development budgets
• Strong communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
• Ability to effectively present information to top management.
• Ability to travel as required.
• Work with product owners and architects to develop multi generation software technology plans
• Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
• Build a world class software development team to consistently deliver complex software platforms and research projects of varying size and duration

Desired Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math),
• Minimum of 12 years experience in the software domain or a Master’s Degree with 10 years of experience
• Minimum of 6 years’ experience in an engineering leadership / management role
