As the Director of Product Management, in this role, you are the “CEO” of all ‘hardware platforms’ at Riverbed Technology. You are responsible for managing the entire product lifecycle for existing and new product development and enhancement initiatives. You translate marketplace and individual BU needs into cohesive short-term and long-term plans and own the tactical and strategic implementation of the plans. As part of your role, you serve as the internal and external product expert and provide detailed information to support sales and customers. In addition, there is a platform software component as well with regards to system BiOS, firmware, device drivers, BMC, OS distro/kernel, etc.
Mandate
Responsible for cross-BU platform and platform software lifecycle management.
Build costing models with Engineering and Supply Chain peers, create business cases for revenue and margin goals and responsible for product pricing approvals.
Provide detailed PRDs along with business justifications for all aspects of platform development/enhancement and project priorities. PRD must also include product transition plans if applicable and forecast/volume targets for initial six months after launch.
Owns competitive analysis (features and pricing) and creation/maintenance of all product pricing.
Ensures utmost reuse of efforts and resources to support the needs of all BUs requiring platforms and platform software initiatives.
Coordinates efforts across all BUs to ensure that the platform look/feel/branding/manageability/troubleshooting is consistent.
Assist in the creation of collateral material (datasheets, specifications sheets, product presentation, interoperability matrix for both hardware and software).
Track product performance - sales vs. forecast mapping, contribution to company revenue and market position, and recommends product or marketing modifications to maximize value and increase penetration/revenue.
Ensures BOM (bill-of-materials) accuracy and participates in CCB (Change Control Board) for form/fit/function change order management.
Ideal Candidate
Technical BS degree. MBA a plus.
10-12 years experience in product management
15+ years experience in compute systems used in applications such as networking (switching/routing infrastructure), Security, WoC, SANs, etc.
Sound understanding if x86 high performance server designs.
Industry knowledge and prior experience with MIPS, ARM and other commercial application-specific solutions.
Working knowledge of LINUX as it applies to platform management, reliability, availability, serviceability and performance.
Demonstrated success defining and launching high tech and innovative products.
Ability to manage constraints and project obstacles is a key requirement of the role.
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
