Job Description:
The Director of Marketing helps define and lead the development and execution of the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s overall marketing strategy and output. Working in concert with colleagues in the development and admissions offices, as well as with other HGSE units, the Director of Marketing manages production of high-level marketing materials for the school using both in-house and freelance resources; develops, creates and edits marketing copy for development and admissions materials, and other school-wide projects; oversees the development and expansion of the school’s web properties ensuring that they are innovative, functional, and support the school’s marketing goals; and contributes to the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s institutional marketing efforts by helping to conceptualize, define, and uphold HGSE’s primary marketing messages, brand standards, and visual identity guidelines.
The Director of Marketing is accountable for quality, deadlines, and budget parameters for creative deliverables and is responsible for finding and implementing efficiencies between units at the school. The Director of Marketing is responsible for working with content creators in the Communications and Marketing Office as well as throughout the school to define and implement a robust inbound marketing strategy.
The Director of Marketing will be responsible for identifying opportunities for departments to work collaboratively, while addressing photo and writing needs across the school in a comprehensive manner. The Director of Marketing ensures that the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s marketing approach is strategic, innovative, targeted and demonstrates clear and consistent messaging for key institutional audiences.
This position has a 6 month orientation and review period.
Basic Qualifications
B.A. in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field, with at least 7 years’ progressively responsible experience in the Marketing/Communications industry.
Additional Qualifications
Experience working with higher education, non-profit, or NGOs. Experience implementing sophisticated digital marketing campaigns supported by targeted print collateral. Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and motivate a team. Experience fostering collaborations across departments. Excellent writing and editorial skills, and experience managing marketing campaigns. Demonstrated ability to work within budget parameters and creatively finding solutions for better efficiencies.
