The Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives team is looking for a Director of Government Affairs that will drive policy and political strategy on a range of issues, and will build and manage a team of professionals.
Job Responsibilities
•Works closely with cross-functional project team to identify priorities, develop policy and political strategies, and implement a global plan to advance the company’s agenda.
•Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
•Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
•Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
•Recruits, hires, and manages a team of professionals to support the project.
•Designs plans for government outreach by providing analysis of emerging or existing legislative public policy issues impacting the project. Gathers intelligence and assists in the preparation of position papers, policy briefings, and presentations.
•Coordinates actions through strategic partners in government, industry, academia, consulting firms, and others to communicate corporate positions and achieve objectives.
•Projects may include implementation of public policy activities, government and industry lobbying efforts, advocating government funding initiatives and identifying new opportunities favorably advancing the company’s influence with the government.
Education Details
•Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred
•Typically requires a minimum of 15 years experience in government, government relations, or other advocacy roles with a Bachelor’s degree; or 12 years with an advanced degree.
Key Qualifications
Expertise in areas such as sustainable energy initiatives, clean energy policy, state government policy and regulatory structures, and, political/issues campaigns.
Experience developing communications campaigns, with corporate sustainability initiatives a big plus.
Experience advocating before governments at all levels on behalf of corporations, trade associations, or any other interest group strongly preferred.
Ability to thrive in an ambiguous work environment and drive change laterally across organizations using influencing skills.
Ability to work across functions with both internal and external stakeholders and partners.
Problem solver and strong collaborator with exceptional interpersonal skills and track record of working with senior leaders.
Excellent leadership and professional presence.
Proven ability to manage a team to achieve results.
Highly motivated self-starter and must enjoy a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
Desire and ability to learn and advocate on new policy issues.
Flexible and creative team player who can juggle multiple tasks under pressure and sometimes with limited information.
