Director Business Planning & Strategy MetLife New York City

Job Description:
The Sr. Business Planning & Strategy Consultant will work with leadership at MetLife to identify, refresh and execute strategy projects at the enterprise level and will be responsible for a wide variety of strategic business planning activities and functions. They will also be responsible for drafting clear and concise communication materials meant for the senior leadership of the enterprise.
As a valued contributor, this individual will partner with management to produce, analyze and synthesize information from around the globe. The individual ensures operational excellence through identification, prioritization and implementation of projects that meet strategic, tactical, market and customer demands and may develop and implement a consistently deployed approach to project management.

The individual will be expected to participate in numerous team development activities (e.g., peer to peer coaching, mentoring, etc.) to improve capabilities and encourage collaboration across the globe. They will gain invaluable experience working across functions and businesses while engaging with executive and senior level MetLife leaders across the globe to ensure that business planning and objectives are tracked and reported accordingly.

Key Relationships

Reports to: VP Enterprise Strategy

Location: New York, NY

Key Responsibilities:
Work independently to partner with global business leaders, regional management and local teams to scope, define and coordinate initiatives in support of business strategy. Develops and refines performance measures and internal/external benchmarks to develop an information framework to support business outcomes. Creates communications related to strategic business plans and initiatives. Provides oversight to assigned projects and leverages research using a variety of tools such as internet searches for packaging information on MetLife’s competitors, customer date and industry trends that shape the global insurance and financial services marketplace. Collects key metrics from various sources and uses management analysis tools, to complete complex analyses such as cost projections, feasibility studies, benchmark comparisons, and other reports. Develops recommendations for senior management review. Develops complex financial and investment models and participates in preparing ROI analysis as necessary for senior management. May coordinate complex or highly visible events; oversee high priority projects which require considerable resources and high levels of functional integration; interface with all areas affected by projects including end users, distributors and vendors and ensure adherence to quality standards and review project deliverables. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Candidate Qualifications

Business Knowledge/Technical Skills: BS or equivalent from a top ranked institution; higher degree MBA/MS a plus.
MBA from a top ranked institution
One or more years of post-MBA experience at a top tier consulting firm or in a strategic planning function at a Fortune 500 firm
Demonstrated distinctive problem solving and analytical skills.
Must possess business maturity, strong presence, and advanced written and verbal communication skills.
Prior experience in projects that require detailed execution. Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities.
Strong collaboration skills and ability to engage across multiple functions and business units.
A self-starter, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Prior insurance or retail financial services experience is a plus but not mandatory.
Ability to manage consensus at various levels and cultivate strategic internal relationships across a highly matrixed organization.
Ability to influence and negotiate without formal direct authority, consultative in approach; diplomatic.
Organized and detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities
Willingness and ability to travel internationally
Flexibility to accommodate working across global time zones.
Foreign language skills a positive
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
