Job Description:
The Director of Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytics plays a key leadership role in enabling the company meet its growth and profitability goals. The Director will work across the enterprise to understand and document the data, reporting and analytics needs of our business units and drive projects to deliver new BI capabilities using rapid technology delivery methodologies. The Director will interface with executive leadership and senior management across the company to determine how BI technology can be leveraged to provide new and higher quality information on a timelier basis.
The Director will evaluate new BI solutions and data warehouse software platforms to introduce new capabilities and enhance legacy systems. A close working relationship with the business partners must be built and maintained while establishing new technology management processes that efficiently and effectively deliver the new BI capabilities to the business. This position initially focuses on building the strategic BI technology platform and executing the project roadmap to achieve the end-state vision. Over time, the Director will have increasing operational responsibility to manage the Business Intelligence & Analytics team that delivers the day-to-day information to the end-users.
We are looking for an individual who excels in several key areas: Business Intelligence platforms and tools, data warehousing and data sourcing architecture, data quality management, data governance, internal financial & management reporting, profitability reporting, enterprise performance management and KPIs, budgeting, planning & forecasting, management and development of people, and internal/external relationship-building. Previous experience designing, building, operating and maintaining a large BI and Analytics platform is preferred. This position reports to the Vice President, IT Systems. This is an onsite position in our Denver office and is not conducive to telecommuting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Initiate and maintain a systems plan and roadmap consistent with business objectives. Plans should identify innovative opportunities utilizing both emerging and existing technologies to provide strategic and tactical advantages in planning, managing and conducting business.
Direct the analysis, development, implementation and support to deliver reporting and analytical insights for all business units in the appropriate market facing or enterprise manner.
Provide the best cost/benefit performance of technologies and services by effectively organizing and utilizing department resources, and managing budgets and projects congruent with cost guidelines and corporate fiscal policies.
Provide strategic and operational guidance on delivery of a large scoped BI program within a team, across the company, and externally in collaboration with affiliates/vendors/partners.
Manage the Support, Maintenance and Improvement of the existing Oracle Discoverer, Hyperion, Oracle Data Warehouse and MicroStrategy solutions with a focus on optimization and transformation.
Direct the justification, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise wide analytics platforms that contribute to the growth and profitability objectives of the business units. Be able to find the right mix of efficiency while balancing global, regional and local information needs.
Establish a state-of-the-art Business Intelligence & Analytics development team, capable of successful development and implementation of analytics for the businesses served.
Continually improve the quality of team resources through career development planning and training. Provide leadership to ensure the organization attracts, develops and retains the best people and fosters an environment which motivates a diverse team to fully use its capabilities in achieving desired business results.
Establish and govern information life cycle management. Establish processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate metadata; take steps to assure metadata accuracy and validity. Conduct data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks. Maintain strategies and plans for data security, business continuity, and archiving. Ensure that data strategies and architectures are in policy compliance.
Display leadership in working with senior management to ensure activities are aligned with overall business and departmental objectives
Develop consistent data guidelines and manage relationships with other teams to ensure smooth running of the operation and maintenance of the BI & Analytics ecosystem
Proactively manage multiple relationships with key vendors that support the staff members reporting to them or those indirectly impacted by BI & Analytics platforms outside of the team
Maintain and manage expenses of annual BI & Analytics budget
Mentor, coach and manage team members
Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred
12+ years of management experience with demonstrated success in managing similar teams in an IT development function within an enterprise
Experience in building and managing budgets and strategic plans within a medium to large organization
The ideal candidate will possess deep, hands-on experience managing BI and Analytics technology, preferably with a telecommunication or IT Services company background.
Proficient functional knowledge of management/KPI reporting, profitability reporting & analysis, predictive analytics, planning & forecasting, budgeting, enterprise performance management, and internal financial reporting
Understand the end-to-end data management process, including quality assurance and demonstrated proficiency in reading logical and physical data models, understanding database data types, understanding table structures, and building queries.
Proficiency in the following technologies: Business intelligence (e.g. MicroStrategy, Tableau, Qlik, Domo, or others), Predictive analytics (e.g. SAS or others), Database platforms (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL Server), Web analytics (e.g. Adobe Site Catalyst or others), etc…
Working knowledge of data source systems, specifically PeopleSoft ERP, Salesforce and Kenan Billing a plus.
