Position Description
The Senior Director HR IT is responsible for the full systems life cycle management of applications that support Thermo Fisher's core HR business processes and the associated data & analytics business. Reporting directly to the head of Corporate, Strategy and Integration will focus on collaborating with senior leadership from other shared services and IT groups to develop and optimize HR technology strategic and operational excellence capabilities (organization, process, and tools/systems) to support and grow the business, and is accountable for providing process, application, and project management leadership for the HR systems.

The primary application in use is Workday and additionally this position is also responsible for all other HR & Legal applications and bolt-on’s that support the two corporate functions.

This role actively participates in long term strategy planning and ensures policies, procedures, and processes are in place to address complex business needs. Ensures long term solution delivery methodologies are followed that drives quality, reliability, stability and completeness of all Corporate HR & Legal related programs that meet the financial objectives and business needs.

Responsible for directing all HR and legal application development, enhancements, user support and on-going application support and operations service teams. He or she is responsible for adhering to Corporate IT standards and processes and promoting the knowledge across the team in order to precisely develop and support these solutions to align with executive leadership goals and objectives. The Sr. Director will have demonstrated proficient knowledge of HR business process, SDLC, Application Portfolio Management, Software Engineering, Release Management, and Project Management methodologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides leadership direction and support to teams responsible for HR and Legal Application services
Provides oversight and guidance to team leaders
Ensures effective portfolio governance and oversight
Acts as point of escalation for issues regarding performance or competing priorities in HR and IT space
Coaches and mentors managers to improve service quality and effectiveness
Ensures team objectives are clearly defined and managed
Service enhancements are delivered on-time, on-scope and within budget of release commitments
Service support and operations result in achievement of defined service levels
Actively solves resource or technical challenges to ensure enhancement timelines and budgets are achieved
Escalates issues as required
Partners with release management to ensure system-level risk is properly managed
Provide Strategic and Technical leadership
Objectively analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of current and planned people and organizational capabilities and determine appropriate solutions
Customer satisfaction meets or exceeds defined objectives
Develops and maintains effective relationship with cross-functional counterparts
Ensures teams adhere to defined service transition processes including service enhancement design, sizing, build and transition to support
Ensures adherence to “Run the Trains” defined service operations processes including event, incident, problem and change management
Monitors support and operations services to ensure responsive user support. Sponsors and encourages a culture of continual service improvement
Supports and actively participates in the development of service roadmaps aligned with corporate strategies
Understands how new technologies and management models can be appropriately applied to improve value for Thermo Fisher
Understands business strategies and identify ways technical architecture, operations and support can deliver competitive advantage to Thermo Fisher
Create annual plan of required service changes (upgrades, refreshes, patches) and follow defined processes to prioritize, define and schedule and support delivery of work
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience (required); Masters preferred
Minimum of 15 years of proven IT experience with at least 5 years in an IT senior leadership role (required)
More than 5 years’ experience in an IT leadership role managing HR or similar applications with strong understanding of operational HR business process requirements.
This position will be located at either Waltham or Carlsbad
