Director News Gannett Lafayette

Job Description:
The Lafayette Journal Courier, a Gannett company, is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to oversee the Newsroom. The News Director will be responsible for a team of journalists, aiming to provide a steady stream of high quality content while aggressively using data and analysis to drive decisions in covering the topics and issues most important to our key audience. This leader will coach reporters to make strategic decisions about coverage plans and will direct and champion investigative and First Amendment journalism. As a key link between the JCOnline and the community and reporting directly to the regional VP, this individual will work to increase the visibility of the news organization in the Lafayette area and in addition collaborate with the Indy Star, a Gannett company located in Indianapolis.

The News Director works across departments in content initiatives, ranging from new products to native advertising and content sponsorships. This position will effectively partner with the production team and design studio on a daily basis and will work closely with the Community Content Specialist to set the editorial tone and plan content across sections and platforms.

Qualified candidates must have exceptional core journalism skills.
The ability to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment and edit and lead top-notch watchdog journalism.
Must be an effective communicator and have the ability to handle wide-ranging duties.
Perform well under pressure, be self-directed and motivated.
Possess strong news judgment and have strong interpersonal skills.
5 + years of applicable Experience
College Degree
