Director VSAN Certifications Customer Advocacy VMware Palo Alto

Job Description:
The Storage and Availability Business Unit (SABU) is looking for a Director . In this role, you will be expected to be familiar with VMware’s infrastructure software including vSphere, vCenter, vCloud Director and vShield. You will also be expected to work closely with other organizations within VMware so as to enable service provider adoption of the vCloud suite. The candidate will have overall responsibility for the hardware requirements, software - hardware integration and hardware architecture of the product portfolio of SABU. In particular, he/she will be in charge of the hardware architecture of the ESXi storage stack and the Virtual SAN product. Virtual SAN is a new generation hyper-converged storage platform that is changing drastically the way VMware customers manage and consume data storage. For certifications, this candidate will work closely with the Hardware Architect and certification team. This is an instrumental role and liaison to partner with all technical levels and help roadmap for long term scalable growth. This role would require engaging business partners, business development, and ensuring a vibrant and successful ecosystem.

The candidate will be responsible for defining and executing hardware certification processes and define the SABU strategy in terms of hardware adoption. The candidate is expected to have end-to-end product ownership from a hardware perspective, collaborate with VMware’s “field” and interact directly with customers as part of the Customer Advocacy team; and collaborate with partners on support cases involving joint customers.

Responsibilities

Design and develop storage solutions and products with an emphasis on hardware - software integration and architecture.

Define and execute hardware certification processes and software suites that can be utilized by a broad community of partners.

End-to-end ownership of product features, quality and usability.

Participate in and review detailed technical architecture and designs.

Work closely with R&D, QA engineering as well as Continued Product Development and Product Support teams.

Communicate effectively, both internally and externally. This involves presentations, writing papers, blog posts and presentations.

Work closely with hardware vendors and partners in addressing VMware’s customer requirements and meet SABU’s strategic goals.

Participate in company-wide architecture committees and technical strategy setting forums.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in enterprise storage system design and development.

• Expertise in hardware components, such as hard drives, SSD, UltraDIMM, SATADOM, NVMe switches and devices, storage controllers, SAS switches, SAS expander, disk backplane, disk enclosures, SAN, NAS.

• Deep knowledge of storage protocols and standards, such as SCSI, SAS, SATA, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NVMe.

• Deep knowledge of operating systems and related technologies and architectures.

• Comfortable with a range of programming languages (C, C++, Python) and development tools.

• Distributed systems experience is a plus.

• Partner collaboration experience is a plus.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Bachelors in Computer Science or related Engineering discipline, plus 15+ years of industry experience. Graduate degree in Computer Science or related Engineering discipline preferred.
