Director Operational Risk Management Prudential Madison

Job Description:
PREI’s Operational Risk Management team is responsible for assessing and monitoring risks to PREI’s global business operations and for recommending and implementing risk controls that mitigate those risks. The team supports PREI’s strategic business objectives by developing and maintaining effective and efficient risk management programs.
The team is currently seeking a Director, Operational Risk Management to execute on risk strategies related to PREI’s business operations. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that business and operational risks, when weighed against business opportunities, are well managed and acceptable. This position is based in Madison, NJ and will report to PREI’s Vice President, Global Head of Operational Risk Management.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:



Support business processes by reviewing, monitoring, and assessing the control environment for new and established products and activities
Work with the Vice President, Global Head of Operational Risk Management and PREI business management to proactively identify and evaluate operational business risks and trends, and develop processes that help mitigate risk, ensure compliance, and protect PREI's brand
Monitor, analyze and communicate emerging risks and trends
Assist management with all aspects of the audit process, including facilitating Risk and Control Self Assessments, documenting key risks and controls, developing action plans to address control gaps and providing effective challenge to the adequacy of controls
Identify, research, evaluate , and/or resolve risk issues impacting the business, including conducting control reviews or gap analyses for existing processes, as needed
Establish and maintain relationships with Prudential Investment Management and PREI Business and Functional Leaders, as well as the broader risk management community, internal audit, legal, compliance, operations, and finance staff
Lead PREI's Sarbanes-Oxley efforts and related reviews; communicate results and analysis to senior management and key internal stakeholders
Analyze and report operational risk events, identifying root causes of control breakdowns, developing remediation plans, performing scenario analysis reviews
Identify and ensure key risk indicators are developed and reported appropriately
Serve as liaison between the Business and Internal Audit for engagements, and tracking the resulting issues and action plans until effective closure
Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree / MBA preferred
8-10 years of related work experience with a minimum of 3 years in risk management, audit or similar function within the institutional asset management business; prior experience in real estate investment management strongly preferred
Strong familiarity with both the private and public asset classes
Prior experience in operational process and internal control design with a proven track record influencing processes and controls
Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley, Privacy and other regulatory requirements
Strong project management skills and experience
Strong analytical, critical thinking skills; solutions oriented
Demonstrated track record of sound judgment and decision making skills
Ability to work independently, thinks outside the box, and demonstrates creativity and innovation
Strong attention to detail with the ability to summarize and communicate complex issues effectively, both orally and in writing
Experience managing and developing more junior team members;
A limited amount of travel may be required
