Director Media Client Services Merkle Chicago

Job Description:
The Director will manage the department, as well as direct responsibility for a book of business and a team of media planners and buyers as well as be part of the Digital Media leadership team. This digital leader will partner with the Merkle vertically oriented client teams and other capability leaders on cross channel programs including the search & email teams to manage client programs. This digital leader is expected to be a digital media and programmatic subject matter expert. Responsibilities include leadership for media strategy, delivery, business development, and management as well as act as an SME at client’s including VP, EVP & CMO level.

We are looking for an analytically minded, media strategy leader to join our digital media team. You will have the opportunity to be a part of an innovative, fast growing business unit focused on revolutionizing display media planning and buying, in the context of a multi-channel data driven approach. We are looking for an innovator who understands both marketing and technology, and who can aid with identifying business objectives and corresponding media solutions resulting in engagement and consideration among our clients’ target audiences.

Key Responsibilities
Act as point of escalation for team when issues arise, engaging stakeholders
Manage recruiting, hiring, career pathing and development of team members
Active in staff modeling, including resource planning, alignment of resources to needs, and recruiting
Contribute and often lead the scoping process, including assessing needs and detailing the scope of work and scope is detailed; including provision of service level agreement details
Identify key platform, technology, process, and professional development needs, highlighting opportunities for enhancement and/or training; Stay apprised of industry innovation in these areas, ensuring team is current
Consult with individual client teams as needed to ensure best practices are being used and to brainstorm new approaches to achieving client goals
Key contributor and driver of all of the media execution process documents, platform usage playbooks, training programs, optimization best practices, etc.
Act as a Media subject matter expert and support growth/sales efforts
Focus on a short list of key clients to drive a positive relationship and growth
Lead clients to build innovative Media programs, partnering with experienced digital marketers on the client side, including VPs, Directors, and Managers
Oversee the development of media plans to achieve client’s immediate and long term objectives
Design and champion innovative, sophisticated strategies and campaigns that deliver against the client’s goals and drive unique value for our clients
Contribute thought leadership content to promote Merkle’s voice in the industry
Drive engagement across teams and create environment of open collaboration and recognition
This position reports to the Vice President of Media Client Services and will be out of our Charlottesville, VA office


Key Skills And Experience
6-8+ years of experience in the Media industry in one or several functional areas, including: adtech, marketing tech or media planning and buying.
4-5+ years of experience in leading and growing large scale teams, responsible for driving exceptional delivery, efficient operations, and growth of team members
Demonstrated client management and consultative selling skills as well as the ability to interact at all levels of management, including the executive level, to advocate and influence in support of a vision and direction
Experience managing and overseeing online marketing programs, projects, and teams in an agency, consulting, industry, or software / service
Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including an analytic and fact-based approach to problem-solving
Passion for technology, with extensive knowledge of the ad tech ecosystem – DSP, DMP, AMP, SSP
Ability to think on one’s feet and manage dynamic situations and environments
Strong communication skills, verbal and written
An entrepreneurial spirit, desire to "change the game", a self-starter, and thinks outside of the box
Works effectively in a fast-paced, energetic team environment
Experience managing, developing and hiring talent
Willingness to travel 25%
