Director Investment Services Manulife Boston

Job Description:
The Director will lead a team responsible for all facets of investment client service to internal Retirement Plan Services clients (wholesalers, inside sales desk, relationship management team and national accounts), as well as external defined benefit and defined contribution clients. This service ranges from pre-sale activities such as line-up performance/fee comparisons and sales presentation support, to client on-boarding, review meetings and everything in between.

The Director will serve as an investment expert and senior leader on the RPS Product Development and Marketing team, providing research and support to strategic projects, product development, marketing communications and investment education initiatives.

The Director will be expected to build and maintain relationships with key internal investment stakeholders, e.g. manager research teams, operations, compliance, legal, in addition to external mutual fund and asset management partners.

The Director will manage a team of five located in Boston and Westwood, MA. Some US travel will be required, along with occasional travel to Canada.

Major Responsibilities


Client Support
Ensure our high level standards of responsiveness and support to our internal client groups are met and/or exceeded
Act as an investment subject matter expert for the sales and relationship management teams across all market segments, i.e. JH Signature, JH Enterprise and Total Retirement Solutions
Identify opportunities and develop strategies to proactively educate our sales/RM teams on investment related topics and participate in ongoing sales desk training programs
Participate in sales finalist and client review meetings as required
Support a block of Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit clients, including the delivery of investment reviews and investment consulting services
Team Leadership
Provide leadership and coaching to a team of five investment professionals ranging in levels of seniority from analyst, up to and including manager level
Set clear performance expectation for all team members and ensure individual development plans are created and executed
Foster a culture of excellence within the team that includes a client centricity mind-set, deep awareness of industry trends/players, and a desire to win.
Competitive Research
Oversee the operation and development of proprietary competitive research tools
Stay abreast of product and platform enhancements in the Retirement and Investments space, and be a source of competitive insight to members of senior management
Understand the nuances of retail mutual fund regulations, pricing, share class, and market dynamics
Operations and Reporting
Oversee the investment onboarding function for the mid/large market retirement business
Manage the production of various investment sales metrics, along with monitoring and interpreting for senior management
Ensure that policies and procedures continue to evolve to meet the needs of the business while ensuring that operational, regulatory and reputation risk are appropriately managed.
Experience:
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of relevant experience in the Retirement, Mutual Fund and/or Asset Management business
Demonstrated leadership skills honed by at least 5 years of management experience
Bachelor's degree is required. CFA required and MBA preferred
Sales and/or client service experience
Proper securities licensing, Series 6 and 63 at minimum. Insurance Producer licensing a plus.
Knowledge & Skills:

Deep understanding of 401k products and marketplace
Ability to understand advanced investment theories and articulate them in an understandable manner for non-investment professional clients
Ability to command respect from the external investment community, including mutual fund partners, advisors/consultants and pension clients of all sizes
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while interpreting the broader strategic goals of the business
Intellectually curious with a desire to stay abreast of market developments and trends
