The Director of Engineering role is for the People portfolio (Payroll and Employee products) leading the engineering team in our San Francisco office. The leader is responsible for overseeing the engineering team and its deliverables; as well as retaining and recruiting top talent to the team. As one of the most senior technical leaders on the team, the person is expected to drive technical architecture and product decisions while balancing resources and schedule considerations. The successful candidate will work cross discipline with Product Management and Product Marketing to make sure we have the right product roadmap, product requirements and product positioning. The person will also work with other leaders across Xero in the San Francisco, Australia and New Zealand offices.

Lead Xero People engineering team to deliver on key innovation and features

Desired Skills & Experience:
5+ years experience in senior engineering leader role
Proven ability to build and lead engineering teams
Demonstrated ability to deliver on complex architecture and product
Experience delivering on microservices and scaling distributed systems
Tenacious and resourceful problem solver with deep analytical and organizational skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and verbal
Innovative and positive team player with a “can do” attitude
